Again we cannot clean the tail 96/6 and now 316/8 what a joke! Lack of intelegent bowling we need Fanie, Donald and Pat Symcox back, or someones with their capabilities!

Agreed. I was just getting ready to eat humble pie at 96/6, but we all saw what happened then. Still, a 50 run lead is not the end of the world. Fingers crossed ey guys?

Well since Kallis has gone out a few overs ago, we don't have any hope anymore :(. The South African team blocks far too much (look at all the strike-rates) and therefore they get themselves in trouble all the time. They must be attacking like Oram and Vettori were yesterday in order to build a big partnership.

226 run lead, with only Steyn and Ntini left. Not great, but didn't see any of it. Was the pitch doing anything?

Smith, Gibbs and Dippenaar don't deserve their places in the team, though in Prince and de Villiers I think there is something to work with.

Can't have only one bowler however.
 
At least we got a lead of more than 200, so we have given ourselves a chance.

The pitch was crazy. Keeping low one minute and really high the next. lot of movement off the seam as well. Very difficult batting pitch really...
 
...which is odd for centurion because its normally a flat hard pitch, batsmen paradise much like the wanderers. unless there's a growing trend towards preparing bowling pitches for test matches so that theres more results and less draws. if thats the case then im in favour of it, preparing a batsmen pitch would make SA go into defensive mode and try to draw matches instead of trying to win.
 
I am in favour of it as well. I dont see the point of playing five days of cricket, only for it to end in a draw...

Do not be to sure, we they were 96/6 1st innings and got 318? Now suddenly (x for 7 Vetori is still there as well as "fair light", play it as we please Umpires and the incredible "nature" rain rain rain? still to come!

PS I think Mayhem. ag I mean Graham. read my previous post's as he attacked for a change, but he read nothing about clearing the Fcucking tail!

Off hand, and i'll dig the stats later, Paul Adams was one of our better bowlers for clearing out the tail. Mind you, Paul Adams wasn't that bad a bowler.

Played 45 Tests, took 134 wickets @ an average of 32.....

Boje has played 39, took 95 wickets @ an average of 39....

Somebody can correct me but i think his fall came after an injury which meant he couldn't bowl his "wrong'un" .

Anyway, i'm glad Steyn has bowled nicely this test match, hopefully he only improves as we desperately need a bowler who can swing the ball through the air and off the pitch @ pace.

Onto the batting, 2 more failures for Mr. Gibbs & Mr. Smiff.

The pressure must be on Gibbs as there is already lots of speculation in the media about Gibbs only being reserved for 1 day cricket and Gibbs needing too take a "break". Nothing substantial on the UCB's golden boy Smiff yet.

Somebody said on the TV today we do not need performers we need Class! How true!
As for above I hope Dale become our next banker as we need Donald speed, We need the Fanie De Villiers capabilities (to work someone out) and we need another PAT Symcox! High flyer's! Where are they? Then in the Batsmen? They must please stop trying to perform and show class! we need consistent performers that can read the game and know when to do what!

Yeah steyn does look a good prospect.

Gibbs has forgotten what to do when the bat is in his hands. He really does look lost at times. And we all know what we think of Mr Smith....:p

As for adams, he was not a bad bowler at all. Seriously underrated after being overhyped due to his action at the start of his carreer.

Maybe if they'd brought on boje today we would have got some play in the gloom...Oh well. I say an hour of play is all we need tomorrow to erm, wrap up the tail :)

You cant tell me there isn't one kid bowling wrist spin @ even school level that can be identified for the future, something is wrong with the youth management.
 
Don't know if there are the coaches to bring them through. Not exactly a lot of past SA wrist-spinning greats milling about.

But, yes, there's got to be at least one brat bending it like Beckham on some green mat somewhere.
 
Finally a test win after almost a year since beating the West Indies last year.
