Which tyre manufacturers do 235/70 17" ?

235/70 17"
Speed rating: H
Load rating: 111
Rim: 7J x 17

What are the implication of going slightly wider?

After a quick search it looks like you'll need to take a Continental. You can usually go 10mm wider without any problems. I'm guessing this is going on an SUV of some sort.

Going wider may cause a floating rim. Any tire dealer will be able to tell. It's often best to go for the smallest size applicable to the rim to avoid a floating rim which can be a deadly situation.

Basically the tire floats around on the rim. If that happens while you drive around a corner the tire will slip off and the car will roll, especially a SUV (they already have increased roll over likelihood).

Talking about tyres guys, I used to drive a Ford Fiesta 1.6 four doors and it came out with 195/50/15, I changed the tryes and fitted 205/40/17's and the car lost a lot of power. But funny on my T5 I replaced the original 205/50/17's with the 245/40/17's and I dont feel the difference at all. I am thing of changing my 205/55/16 on my 2.0 Golf 5. Which ones should I go for that wont affect the speed? I was thinking of staying with the 16' and fit in 215/45/16's what do you guys think?

How about your own thread?

Maybe MBB is his first forum ever, and he doesnt' know common forum manners yet?
So let's inform him...

Ag please man, get a life. Nxa
Kbeat, you're trying to hijack Ponder's thread. In other words - he started a thread to discuss certain tires, and you're falling in trying to get advise on something totally different. That is considered bad manners. While you might hijack conversations in RL, we don't appreciate you doing it on the forum. If you were to hijack my conversations in RL you would find yourself excluded very quickly. Start your own thread or buzz off. Baba!
