Can anybody give some advice on a decent one.

Checked out a 26" Mecer on digitalplanet this morning. It's under R7000 and 1920x1200. Looks interesting...

What is the intended use of the monitor, games or office use? I had a Samsung 24" 244t and it was terrible. It had a gorgeous rich picture but the input lag was unbearable for me, not just in games but in office applications as well. The dell 24" apparrently also suffers from input lag but not as much as the Samsung. However for some reason I cant work out some people dont notice the input lag  . I am now using an apple 23" and I could not be happier. No input lag whatsoever, all aluminium construction and touch sensitive buttons on the side. But it is used for office use including CAD and not for games. I would not recommend it for gaming as the ghosting would be too bad imo.

OMG CRT rocks! :p
Excellent blacks.
No lag / fast refresh.
Great dynamic range.
There is a reason Holywood colour times on CRT video monitors.

Yeah I agree 100% , if I could buy a monster CRT I would but nowdays they only sell cr@p I'm afraid. Still using my 19" Viewsonic crt at home and I cant imagine having to put up with a lcd's shortcomings when it breaks oneday. It is especially hard going from a quality crt to a lcd, I think most people that are wowed by lcd's come from a cr@ppy Aopen 17" crt or something similar.

Hi Alanf85,I see Chao's in the WCape have a Acer 22" widescreen LCD 5ms response time, DVI and D-Sub,contract 1000:1 and 1680 x 1050 for R2999 with 3 years collect and repair warrenty. Not bad at all.

Apple Cinema display can play movies as well, just the name tells u.

They can't get to make plasma's so small because of the technology that goes into it.

well, if money is no concern, the apple cinematic is the best out there.

otherwise try to get a viewsonic VX2435wm 24" widescreen LCD. If on a budget, the samsungs have decent price to quality ratio.

This is probably the best mainstream monitor in SA atm. It has a 92% colour gamut (no other LCD monitor has this including the outdated Cinema Displays, OLED monitors apparently will approach 100%), full HDCP (Cinema Display doesn't have either) and it's 2500 by 1600 resolution. It will display
the full HD-DVD/BD content in its 1920by1080 resolution :).
