I'm sorry I must have missed something.
I have signed a 24month contract. Telkom is coming on 19th Jan to install my ADSL.
1 Can someone please tell me why it's so bad to sign this contract?
2 Would one generally want to leave the option of switching to another provider for high bandwith instead of telkom?
3 Should I cancel my order and pay monthly and buy another router?
4 Can someone please explain what the big problem is instead of labeling me ignorant?
5 Is it too late to cancel the contract without paying penalties?
I have a rude reply and a polite reply:
Rude reply:
If you cant figure out yourself why its a bad idea to lock yourself into a 24 month contract right when the ZA internet landscape is undergoing dramatic changes ... well then you are exactly the type of person that will sign such contracts.
Polite reply:
What do you get for signing a 24 month contract?
-A ****ty router worth about R700. You can buy far better ones for R600.
What else do you get for signing a 24 month contract?
-You are Telkom's property for 2 years. No matter if better and cheaper services arrive (as they certainly will) you will be forced to pay today's rates.
-Even if Telkom offer new cheaper services themselves you still have to pay the original contract agreed rate.
-You cant do anything if the service deteriorates.
-You loose all service provider choice and flexibility.
What you should do:
(1) Head bang the wall repeating "I'm a fool" 100x.
(2) Cancel the order ASAP. Phone and say you've been transfered to Pofadder. Lie ... be creative ... it's a necessary life skill.
(3) Buy your own router e.g.
www.dlink.co.za
(4) Phone in AFTER original order is cancelled and get the month-to-month option.
In a nutshell: Why sell two years of freedom and choice for R700???
