24v and 12v charger

Wow, 24 V is not common but nearly 2 grand is surely overkill.

I assume it's 2x 12 V batteries internally. So you could buy two cheap 12 V chargers and put them in series. R 150 each.

Or put the AC input on some sort of UPS.

There are plenty cheap 24V chargers.

That's not R 150 cheap.

All that's needed for these gate/door/alarm battery float chargers is to be able to deliver a bit more current.

You can build one yourself with a buck-boost module fed by a spare phone charger.

My battery in my garage motor is 24v and isn’t being charged quick enough during load shedding.

and then would this also be able to charge the regular 12v 7ah Gate motor batteries?
you need a constant voltage constant current charger but .....the inboard charger will probably fry .if you can disconnect the inboard unit it will work ,but current still will only be around 1.2 amp max for charging with a float of around 0.8 amp at 29 volt or so .not a pulse charger either unless its just to recharge quickly then back to float unit

Unlikely, all chargers are designed to handle low-impedance loads and wide voltage ranges.

In any case who cares, the built in charger is not fit for purpose anyway.

5-10 W is plenty. It'll be night and day vs. the built in 1-2 W trickle.
make sure you give your details to the author so he can contact you to replace what cooks ,seeing as you now have given advice ,how do you work out 1 to 2 watts on a built in charger ?at 24 volt .

I wouldn't. It's overkill and it's "smart" so it's going to be unpredictable.

Reviews say it does a 16 V "recovery" stage (for 12 V, so presumably 32 V for you) . That won't be good left inline with load.

It also might push too much current for these smaller batteries.

But it does say "Use the C7 as a power supply for accessories like a cooler box (12V batteries above 14Ah) " so who knows.

You don't really need anything over 1 A / 25 W or so.

i hear you and follow your thought ,but a 1amp supply at 5v pushed up to 24v isnt going to give much current at the end .if a 45 watt charger at 5v pushed up to 24 volt may work for a while but not for long .

Two CC-CV circuits in series is fine, actually good for balancing. Obviously don't have the grounds tied, they need to be isolated.

It may be 2-4 W, I don't know, clearly it's not enough. I know my gate motor "charges" at about 100 mA.

You only have to replace the energy lost during use. A 500 W motor running for 20 sec uses 2.8 Wh.

So 5 W will replace that lost energy in about 2 hours. under an hour.

I agree 10-25 W would better. Planning on hooking a small solar panel up to mine...

100ma will be your float current ,you need around 800ma to charge ,some can go up to 1.2 amp but will dry out quickly ,on a solar charger you will need at least a good quality 20 watt unit to give what you want .you do get the units with a built in trickle at around R299 .they can charge at around 1amp under good sunlight .

My father in laws inverter has to low charge rate to fill up his batteries in stage 6

ie he would be fine for te first 4 hours but the next not so much as it could not replenish fast enough (he's batteries is kak but doesn't want to fork out the cash for lithium )

Luckily he already had a 12/24 capable car charger

Hooked it up and he has been happier than a pig in palestine ever since, between the inverter and his car charger he gets them topped up quick enough
