256 is slooooow

For the last few days my speeds have dropped below 40kbit/sec during working hours. They tend to improve late at night

Excrutiatingly slow for international sites.I've been waiting here for ..let me see 6 minutes and mail.google.com is still "Loading..."

Thawt of phoning Sentech support but quickly realized how expensive it is to call from one's mobile phone , hence I'm just accepting that the connection is slow and hope for the best

Couldnt help it...ended up phoning and yes they're working on the problem.

International Traffic Is Not Working!

Hi, i've been doing some tests, mainly just using simple tools like ping and traceroute, and i've found out two things:
First, The international Downlink/Uplink is not working properly, and i think it is because of bandwidth problems. If you open a cmd shell and do a tracert www.google.com from windows or a traceroute www.google.com from linux you will verify that from hop 11 (168.209.98.11), it goes into the sat or whatever and there is a jump of at least 400ms (normal), but then, it gets bad, i was seeing a latency of 1800ms to google (during the day). At night it is a bit better. This is due to a bottleneck in the system somewhere, i've talked to the sentech/nowire support staff but all they say is for me to leave my login and contract number so they can investigate. This is complete rubish, because they are trying to make a fool out of me or maybe they think we are stupid. Anyway, I'm considering canceling my contract because this has been degrading for the past 2 months. Second, today at least, international traffic is being limited because for every 4 good pings to google, there are at least 6 ping timeouts.
Oh, i forgot, i'm arround 2km from the tower, but my system keeps disconnecting frequently, without apparent reason.
Sentech, sort the problems out or else...

International is slow on 128K connection as well.
No MSN, no Gmail, no international = sucky

Well, working on the problem, typical!

They allways say they are working on the problem, but they dont realize the problem is them! First, What kind connection problem takes more then 2 hours to sort out? If they say their equipment has blown up, i'll give them more credit. But even so, on an emergency, u replace a broken router or a dish lnb in about half hour, i know, i've done it myself.

international has been very erratic the last few months (to say the least) and unacceptable at times (like now).
they should just #@^#@ sort the stuff out instead continue to 'work on the problem'

hehe

Do something? Like what? Remember, you signed a contract that says they dont have to give you any service. Have you read the contract carefully?
There should be a consumers defense organization like in civilized countries...<sigh>. Im really tired of this ****, one of this days, i'll get my own dvb receiver, my modem, my 3.8m antenna, my 4 linux servers and my 10W BUC and i'll just make my internet happen! xit!

Dude , the contract is only valid for what it defines...in this case broadband internet connectivity at all times. You can block you debit order until the problem is resolved...If we all do that , that anough to get sentech to sort out their issues.

Sure

Sure, Broadband connectivity, that functions like a dial-up modem, erm, no, scrach that, sometimes a dial-up modem working at 56kbit/s works better, sometimes, surely i dont want to go back there. And ofcourse, they cant garantee anything, if it works, it works, if it doesn't they are not responsible. It's there, in black and white. Anyway, they would only change if people start to cancel their contracts. Anyway, i heard there was alot of problems for sentech in JHB sometime ago because the ad service was really not what they were offering, can someone verify that?
greetz

'as soon as possible' doesn't necessarily mean they're working on it right now...

Hehe
