Apple will launch its iPhone in the UK exclusively through Telefonica’s U.K. mobile arm O2 on 9 November 2007 – in time to cash in on the lucrative Christmas season.

This announcement comes after weeks of speculation as to when the device will be launched in the UK and who the official Apple partner will be.

The iPhone – which combines a widescreen iPod, a cellular phone and a mobile Internet device – has already sold over a million units since its launch on 29 July in the United States.

According to Geekzone “iPhone users in the UK will be able to activate their new iPhones using Apple iTunes software running on a PC or Mac computer from their own home or office, without having to wait in a store while their phone is activated.”

“Activating iPhone takes only minutes as iTunes guides the user through simple steps to choose their tariff, undertake a credit check and activate their iPhone. Once iPhone is activated, users can then easily sync all of their phone numbers and other contact information, calendars, email accounts, web browser bookmarks, music, photos, podcasts and TV shows just like they do when they sync their iPods with iTunes.”

The iPhone will go on sale on 9 November and the 8 GB model will retail for 269 Pounds, VAT inclusive. The phone will sell exclusively through O2 and The Carphone Warehouse’s retail and online stores.

According to Apple CEO Steve Jobs the company wants to sell 10 Million units in 2008, accounting for 1 % of the global mobile phone market.
