29k per month for average SA home

Glad I decided to buy when I did - wont be long till we can sell here and move back across the equator.
 
It means we're catching up with the rest of the world where the average person cannot ever afford their own home. The fact is that most of our children will never be able to afford to own their home and our grandchildren will definitely only ever rent.

R816k is either a very small house or a really cheap area.
 
noxibox : I was talking about just that with my friends the other day. People rely on inheritence to buy their first property. There is just no other realistic way to buy decent property when you are still in your mid-twenties
 
Yeah, and people like me who aren't ever going to get any inheritance are pretty screwed. :(

My gf and I wanted to move into a place together, buying, not renting. There's just no way though. How are young people ever supposed to get a start?

Well, depends where you live. Property in the US is horribly expensive in Washington, DC for instance, but Amarillo, TX you will get a nice place for very little.
 
well if its cost alot to stay here where there is crime etc why stay here?
 
In Germany, people are more and more looking for accommodation in rural arias, as it's quite a bit cheaper, but then, they also have proper transport from those arias to the city. In SA, you can still get cheap(ish) houses 50km's or so outside of the city, and the funny thing is that it still takes the same time to get to work. A friend of mine stayed close to Boschkop (N4 towards Middelburg), and worked in Midrand. Took him the same time, as from his previous place in Koedoespoort (PTA).

But ultimately those areas will also get priced out of reach. Property close to cities is now owned by wealthy individual landlords and property corporations.

That's a rather depressing statistic...although it must be remembered in countries such as the UK, the average house costs around £150k.

Yeah, R816k is "too little". When I look at the Property pages, most houses are going between R1.5m-R3m. This scenario plays into the Banks' hands as more people will need to get a loan to afford a house of their own.

In PMB the top end of that will get you a beautiful restored Victorian mansion, and the bottom end a very nice 4-bed in a good area. In Philippolis it would probably buy you half the town. ;)

It's always expensive in the city and cheaper in the country,so get a farm - house in the country (no farm included).

...reason being that it will probably end up in the land claims court to be given to some poor (now ultra-rich) previously disadvantaged bugger...

then maybe... could also be a hoax to force people with at least some money to buy now, before the property prices crash...

Anything's possible around this country of ours, just look at the wonderful technology we are putting up with... Top class in the world! (10 years ago) :cool:

I bought my property (just an ordinary house) in early 2000 for R275K. In March of this year it was valued at R1.2 mil. That means that I've accumulated a net worth of just under a million bucks in 6 years.

And you call me a retard...
