Hi,

In the market for a upgrade from a Samsung Series 6 40" LED which has been brilliant.

Only reason to use the 3D tech built in would be the 2D to 3D conversion for DSTV HD PVR, any one currently using a set that does that and thinks it has benefit?

Thanks
Russ

You saying that you would take your standard 2D picture out of the DSTV unit and then it would look 3D on the screen?

I know I'm not directly answering your question, so my apologies.
But, I have the D7000 and toyed with 2D-3D conversion on some FHD clips on my PC. It is either hit or miss. In the case of a 'Hit', you get an added depth perception (no popout) and in the case of a 'Miss', you'll turn off the conversion shortly after :D

If you're looking to use 3D in any meaningful way, get yourself a 3D capable Bluray player (while newer models display they're 3D capable, all you really needed was a 2+ speed Bluray drive with a firmware update).

I've watched Thor, Green Lantern and Saw 7 in 3D - but I also use it for PC 3D gaming - and must say, I'm really happy with my purchase!

How do you get the 3D gaming riight? I tried with the PS3 but im not sure how too...
Have you made sure the PS3 recognizes your TV as 3D capable? Also the games must be 3D capable, its indicated on the reverse of the box.

Yes, when I first connected the TV it said that I was able to do 3D gaming. Although Im not sure what are the steps to do that

Thanks for all the replies guys.....

I went to have a look @ the Samsung D7000 and the LG 3D Cinema models today and you are correct, it adds a little depth to the picture but that is about it, so not worth the purchase for me if the majority of our viewing is DVD torrents and HD DSTV.

Settings->Display Settings->Display Output Settings->[rescan the TV]. It should ask you to confirm that there is 3D Display of XX" connected.

Just as well Roman answered there, as I have no idea how it would work on the PS3 :)
For any others who may need the answer for the PC, you have to buy software (third party in the case of ATI or nVidia's inhouse) for ~$50. Ati owners can get a 50% discount on Tridef or iZ3D.

Thanks for the help. I checked again and this time went into options once I was in the game... I had to switch on 3D gaming... OMG... 3D gaming is off the hook
