Hi guys,

is a 2meg line sufficient for streaming?

Unfortunately, that is the max speed available in my area. Tried Bitco, but there is no LOS.

I currently have a 4meg home uncapped account, but will most probably go 2meg business account at my new place. Suggested ISP?

Expected usage is between 200-300Gb per month. (50% P2P, 40% streaming, 10% other)

Or if you have any other suggestions.

Netflix works 100% on 2Mb/s. Hulu might struggle.

Hulu works just fine on a 2Mb or at least it used to back in August last year.
I was on a 4Mb up until 2 weeks ago and it ran on High without buffering so on a 2Mb you can do medium/high without a problem.

I have a 2Mbps line and watch netflix without issues. Quality is similar to DSTV SD quality, and uses about 70% of the line speed I would guess. If there is a bit of other activity on your line/exchange congestion the quality drops a little bit, but I rarely have any buffering once it starts playing (only if there is a Telkom network problem in the area).

I've been with Webafrica for 8 years and their service and offerings are fabulous with no bulldust attached. My advice is go for the fastests line you can afford or that your exchange can handle. You'll be surprised at the WebAfrica prices too. The y supply my ADSL line (2mp/sec) at R 165 p/m which is much cheaper than Helkom . . . Shop around . . . oh yeah, there's no contract but no free router but those are just gimmicks to get you to sign a long contract.
