2nd hand asus n53sv i7

hi guys

I need a new faster laptop for my new work. I can get a "still" new asus n53sv - 12Gb ram - 64bit etc. from a colleague at work.

he says he originally paid about R12k new - I want to make an offer to buy it from him - what would a reasonable offer be?

Is it the i7 + GT540m variant?

Yes it is.

I also being told now that it's old - no longer being manufacturerd and for under 10k I can't get a better **** hot laptop.

You can't, it's ridiculous how much a decent laptop costs these days.

I have one as well with the same specs. Except for the WiFi/Bluetooth module that's on the fritz it's still rock solid.

If you do end up buying it, get an SSD if it doesn't have one. I removed the optical drive in mine, as I never use it, and replaced it with a hard drive tray for extra storage.

OP was right about saying it is "new". It's rocking a 2nd gen i7 and they're already starting to bring out 7th gen. I would stay away from it unless you can get it really cheap, and it's in excellent nic.

I paid 8k for my old Core 2 laptop, but there is no way in hell I'd even get a fraction of that if I were to sell it, so saying the asus was bought for 12k is rather useless info. IMO, that Asus isn't worth anything near its purchase price.

If I were you, see what Flashgear has to offer in the classifieds section. He's also on carbonite and posts good deals there. Some are second hand, demos, or new, but they are great prices. If you are set on the asus, at least browse carbonite and the classifieds here to get an idea of what something with a similar spec would go for, then you could make an educated offer on it.

Otherwise tell us what your budget and needs are, and one of us is bound to find a good deal.

Going that route he's going to have to spend over 10k (more than double what he could get the N53SV for) for something that performs a little better.

A second gen i7 is still quite capable for most tasks.
