Is it wise to buy a 2nd hand Mercedes Benz? I love the brand but I can't afford to buy a brand new one. I am not sure if 2nd hand Mercz gives problems like Audi. Also, tell me how is your Merc treating you after 100 000 kms. Tia

Depends very much on the merc, and how it was treated.
What do you have in mind?

The 4 cylinder engines are known to require timing chain changes at around 200k if I remember right, quite a pricey exercise - the chains stretch
That aside, down to how well the car has been maintained etc. I'd take a warranty out on it if possible.

No, buying is not a problem but I am a bit afraid of maintenance. I don't want to get get a choked in case anything goes wrong. @Sinbad, Notes taken.

Parts are surprisingly affordable for the most part - and you can also source some from overseas if the local ones are expensive.
eg, I replaced the thermostat and housing on my ML320 for R300

A wheel bearing kit for my SLK was also around R300

Drivers door lock assembly was about 3k

but then, a windscreen washer bottle was also 3k, which is a bit weird.

Minor service, you're looking at around R4k at the dealership if there's nothing major to do.
Major service about 7-8k. Again, dependant on whether you need belts changed or brakes or whatever.

ok its not bad as I thought. Thanks a lot for the info. Much appreciated.

Yeah I had a 2003 C200K...

BRILLIANT car, but shortly after I sold it the guy had to do the timing chain and it set him back a pretty penny apparently.

@Sinbad

Seeing as you have an SLK, I hope you don't mind me asking.

I'm looking at getting a 2012+ SLK350 with less than 50k on the clock, full service history etc.. I am prepared to wait until I get the right one.

My question is this. Are there anything particular to be concerned about with the SLK's in terms of maintenance? I've heard that you need to maintain the seals or something for the roof every now and then.

That's a lot newer than mine, mine's the previous generation.
That motor is pretty bulletproof. Seals are rubber, I imagine they'd need treatment with some kind of rubber lubricant every now and then, but I can't imagine that's a train smash. I haven't done anything to mine in 4 years, and I don't think the dealership has either.
Be prepared to have quite a lot of rattles and squeaks from the roof, from my experience of R171s. My 170 seems to be a lot stiffer. That aside, I don't think you'll have any issues.
