Hey guys.

I'm considering getting a new car, I'm looking at the Volvo C30 specifically. (2nd hand 2008 model)

How much are the minor/major services about?
Any problems with these vehicles?

I heard that the clutch is a problem on this car.

Any other thoughts?

I can't comment on costs/servicing - but I can tell you the control arms are kind of weak ...

Be mindful that the T5 has the same engine in as the Ford Focus ST and is therefore SUPER heavy on juice...with no way of getting it to a decent range regardless of how you drive.

Otherwise don't take it to a dealer and a reputable third party instead and you'll find services between R1500-R1800.

True - I got 15.5l/100km on manual and 13.2l/100km on the auto on average

Traffic makes a huge difference and there was a few weeks in a row with heavy traffic from the time I left my complex - and I was approaching 19l/100km. Open road is great though - I got 8.6 on the manual and 8.2 on the auto.

OP - go here as well ... http://www.volvocarclubsa.co.za/index.php - they can help with services and where to go

I had a C30 2.0l for 3 years and enjoyed every minute of it. Never had a single problem.

Service costs? Major & minor?

Thanks for the input guys.

Looks like I have to step my family responsibilities up. My mom decided to not put my sister on her medical aid, but that's another story :/

Under full maintenance plan so can't comment on costs either minor or major.

This would be true if you bought one because then you will be married to Volvo because no one else will buy it from you/trade in.
Their resale is one of the worst.
Good car though.

Have a friend who picked up a Volvo dirt cheap 3 years ago. He regretted it, as the services were expensive and he struggled to sell it without taking a huge knock. Still has it!

I'm going to go look at the Volvo tomorrow!

I phoned Volvo in Bedford and asked about the services. Minor is R2500, intermediate is R5000 and Major is R6500. Service intervals are 20000km.

I hope this Volvo isn't a lemon.

Best piece of advice I can give you is if you're unsure, even just a little bit unsure, this is what you want just walk away. There are thousands of other cars out there.

Damm...My Range Rover V8 4.6lt is almost lighter on juice! :wtf:

That would trade at about R65-70k, so the seller will be very happy. ;) :p
WUT?!

Market value at insurance companies is like R124k? :/

I'm getting quotes now - They tuning me R2600 with R3500 excess. They are mad.

Insurance company values and trade values are two totally different things - Volvos trade at around 60k BEHIND book....

What the *^&*, seriously. What's the market value of the vehicle, please Fazda?
2008 Volvo C30 T5, 90000km on the clock, sunroof, smash & grab, manual gearbox. It's the T5, not R-Design.

Trade 111300 Retail 124100 -

Realistically, they are paying around 50 behind book for low mileage examples ~ you wiil probably find he was offered between 60 and 65 for the car - knew what he had it insured for, and took a chance at going full retail, because that is what you are paying.

Sadly, in SA, despite them being magic cars, Volvo is a disaster if you try and sell it, so if you really want one, go for it and hand it on to your kids, as you will never be happy with what they offer you down the road. :(
