Hi has anyone tried putting in a second Power supply to run their vid cards/hard drives so that you can have 2 lower spec PSU's(lower price too)
How important is the PSU when you are overclocking?

I know of cases that have 2 PSU's like Antec, as for two if you have the space otherwise a 900watt+ PSU should do the trick.

For OC'ing as long as your card/CPU has the required ammount of power + a little more it should be fine :) I have OC'ed a E2180 on a 300Watt PSU to 3.0Ghz no trouble at all!

Hi Rocket-Boy,

I have this setup currently.
Running two Aopen 450W ATX PSU's coupled together (900W total) so they boot at the same time from the motherboard switch signal when I press the case power button - works flawlessly and have had this running for the past 3 years, no problem, no replacements. Motherboard, Graphics, Boot HDD and DVD-Rom on one and everything else on the other.

I used this excellent guide to make the custom connector, and took a few dedicated hours to do it properly - takes about 24-48 hours for the silicone to dry completely and you must not use it until it does - you MUST make sure that you connect/split the correct wires, otherwise you'll fry your components and PSUs. I cleaned mine up to make it neater than the website guide, and it's worth it - you can also put some shrinking sleeve over the finished item to make it even more so...

There are some pics on my site link, but shout if you need further info or more detailed pictures of the connector.

Cheers

Wow thanks Howard, thats some serious info.
Looks like a server case you are running.
Will take a look into that when I get the rig im wanting to power...

Most welcome Rocket-Boy. I got the case a while back as I needed the space for the HDD's - is about the size of two full towers put together. I saw a white version of the same case at Sybaritic, but I'm sure they have the black too... goes for R1,248.00 incl. :)

Cheers,
Howard
