"2x512K" AMD chips

Could someone please explain to me what this is "2x512K" and some Intel chips and like four times more?
What is it used for etc? Significance?

I would assume it's the cache.

Its the L2 (level 2) cache size, each of the core has its own little L2 cache, so a four core would have 4 L2 caches...

Cache is gooood, the more the better

Doesn't really make a huge difference with AMDs though, they don't need it
