Anyone know if 2x8gb will work on my Asus p7h57, with a core i-5 760?

My board and his are really not that different, I think my board is just a modified p55, to be able to work with integrated graphic cpu's. My cpu is also not too different, both are lynnfields and the only real difference is that his cpu has hyperthreading.

I wish I could test an 8gb stick before buying, but I don't have money to possibly waste.

Also, I am aware that the chances are extremely slim for anyone to have tried this. But hey, I might as well ask.
 
I've gotten 4x 8GB to work with my P7H55D-M Evo motherboard (and an i7 860 CPU) and my motherboard's specs said that the maximum amount of RAM was 16GB. So I'd guess it is just because at the time of writing the specs there weren't any 8GB modules available.
 
Oooh, that brings me some hope. Mind posting a pic of that, if you still have the rig?

I have windows 7 ultimate. Did know this, thank you though, would've been a problem if I had a 32 bit OS.

Thank you very much Pada, really appreciate it, quite expensive for 16gb kit though, but ram prices have dropped a lot in a few months. I am going for a 16Gb kit for around R600-800, Kingston, Team or Gskill, all 1600 cl10 at 1.5v.
 
Thanks kingrob. I completely forgot about the Windows restrictions. At the office I'm running Windows 7 x64 Enterprise with a bunch of virtual machines.

Ja! R1150 for 16GB is rather expensive, especially seeing that it has a high latency of 10 too!
When I bought it like 4 months ago, it was much less...
I still don't regret going for 32GB of RAM :) I'm usually averaging about 18GB of RAM nowadays...

Well to be quite honest, 1333 over 1600 and cl10 over cl9 is not a big difference. EDIT/ADD: Also considering the price differences between those in general, it really isn't worth it.

What do you do for a living? Animation/3d modeling?

Sorry, I completely forgot about this.

I'm doing software development and I use the RAM to run lots of Virtual Machines, store temporary files and my MySQL database that I use for reporting.

No worries, really appreciate the time you took for this! A lot of people said it was plain impossible. I am going to throw this in a few peoples faces, before getting myself some more ram. :p
 
I certainly had some egg on my face when I was helping Pada figure out if the board supported higher density modules or not. Its still a gamble on whether the board supports higher-density modules, but it seems like it'll work for the most part, BIOS-depending.
 
Hi guys, life has been smacking me left, right and center. But I am on my feet again, and motivated to start working/learning with 3d modeling/animation, mysql/php, c++ and a whole bunch of other things.

Memory prices have skyrocketed once again. I was insanely lucky to find a guy selling 8gb Kingston sticks for R370 each on olx, told him I will take 6 if they work (4 for me, 2 for my brother), they are also apparently sealed. He will be coming around sometime today, will pay him R100 for petrol compensation, if they don't work, then I don't have to buy them:). Lets hope they work, will post more info later on!

Been a long time since I expected to get 8gb sticks, been looking everywhere nearly everyday since I last posted(yeah, money is THAT tight for me)!

I'm also shocked about the current RAM prices! I mean, it currently costs more to buy 16GB of RAM than it cost me to buy 32GB last year November!

I really missed my machine with 32GB RAM when I was doing a network packet capture competition/game last week, because my laptop with 4GB simply couldn't handle 2GB of captured packets :(

Ram pricing will continue to go up again as we now approaching high season in US and UK , as PC and Notebook sales in those countries are on a increase due to students going back to Colleges, Universities after the long Spring Break , also the Rand/ Dollar hasn’t help as we currently paying R10/USD$1 , last year this time it was around R 7.80 /USD$1.

A few other factors affecting pricing at the moment are-

The decrease in memory module production from many of the manufacturers due to the slowdown in worldwide sales on PC’s and Notebooks ( except for the US and UK now) as Tablets PC’s sales have literally doubled in sales (We use to bring in about 30k of memory modules per month and currently cannot even get close to 10k per month as everything is on allocation)

Memory is always brought in by Air Cargo and the with the high fuel prices and fuel levies imposed by shipping companies these have to be factored into the pricing locally.

Don’t expect pricing to come down anything time soon unless we see the Rand and last year’s levels and production increases , it is very unlikely as the new level for the Rand is around the 9.50 to R 10 Mark now for the Rand/Dollar and many manufactures are focusing on Flash memory.

I really wasn't joking when I said I have been looking for ram every single day since even before posting here. As I said, I was insanely lucky to find this ram for 390 a piece, he miss-typed on olx it wasn't 370, and the fact that he let me test the sticks before having to pay him was like having insurance. I have stress tested for 8 hours with prime95 blend and it is solid at those settings.

I know that prices have been skyrocketing, in jan/feb I could've bought 2x8gb 1600 cl10's for R680, a month or two later it was R1100, and it kept getting more and more.

Things have gotten unnecessarily incompatible with each other over the years(unless greed is a necessity in your opinion).

That is why I hate, mobiles, in some cases people do need them. Consoles, no idea what the point is, a while back I could've built a pc better than consoles, not possible anymore since lga775 died and everything reasonably priced with it. All other garbage limited tech, where pc's could have been used instead, it would have made things cheaper and more convenient.

I think that laptops/notebooks would have been fine, they haven't ruined the pc market as harshly as all the other pointless things combined, but they still have incompatible things which should never have been incompatible. Desktops should have been taking so-dimms a long time ago, it's effectively the same RAM.

I expect a bleak computing future due to greed. Such as paying for streamed and limited processing through some cloud garbage:cry:. Let me not rant on about my theories/expectations.
