I recently had my ADSL limit Capped. I am not a power user and when I checked my usage stats I found that there was usage on my account on days when I was out of station. I use World online as my ISP. After speaking to around a dozen people at WOL and telkom , I got hold of a really helpful person at Telkom who agreed to investigate. He then informed me that my ADSL account was being used by somebody else on another exchange. I spoke to WOL who would not give me any more info but changed my user ID immediately. For most users a 3GB limit is fine and if you are going over limit contact your ISP and check if your account is being used by somebody else. ADSL does not limit multiple users.

where do you check your usage? Does Telkom send an email?

On page www.telkom.co.za/dsl is an option called Usage Tracker. Use your ADSL username and password to access your usage. Obviously this is limited to Telkom Internet subscribers only[;)]

Xyber: you must go adsl.telkomsa.net - its supposed to be the site where u can check from....but it doesn't work (what else does). however, u hv to phone 0860100553(Telkom Internet) to check how much u used/left with. i phoned in before they told me if the third class of ur ip is between 0 and 3 inclusive (e.g 165.165.0-3.154) then you are capped. for other isp's go to : http://userstats.adsl.saix.net and put your isp username and password - [email protected]

Hola Seven

Look carefully at your usage stats.
I monitor mine independently with the Linux utility iptraf which is running on my firewall machine.
There are significant differences between my results and those from Telkom.

I think there is something seriously wrong with their usage measurement system and have submitted a complaint.

Yeh I'm Telkom Internet subscriber.
Thanks for the info

I agree. 3Gb Limit is ample for users that do not download movies etc...
I run a business all day every day and use the lie line a lot, my monthly average is 700MB. The catch: no downloading movies, mp3's, or any other rubbish that is virus prone anyway.[;)]
