I originally applied for ADSL about 7 or 8 years ago and every year since then I got the same response from Telkom "We will have you area upgraded within the next 3 months". Like i said this went on for 4 years and to this day im still fighting them.

What did I do? I discovered the magic of Vodacom. Been using it for quite a while now with minor hiccups here and there but nonetheless they always seemed to get any problems fixed sooner than later.

Recently Ive experienced problems in my area and reported it as soon as i could. The response was that the tower in my area is overpopulated and that it would take 3 months minimum before any upgrades will be done on it.

This sounds all to familiar. I hope im not going down the same path here. I really cant wait 3 months (and thats a minimum with no specific date of upgrades). The lack of internet here is going to heavily affect my part time studies, business and also my late night gamimg (I am a serious WoW player).

Anyone else being told to wait months?

After I moved from one suburb to another in Pretoria, I had such bad signal reception in the new area that I was forced to port to MTN. It was so bad, I couldn't even receive calls or make a call without the line being dropped.
This has been going on for years as I've learned from other people who live in the same suburb.

Before I decided to port, the Vodacom signal test guy came to my home and told me they are still contemplating what to do since they can't put up another tower as it would negatively affect other users.
This still doesn't make sense to me, but whatever, it's their choice if they don't want my business.

And BTW, they will only [try to] listen to CONTRACT subscribers who are experiencing difficulties with their network.

Well many years ago the MTN signal was pathetic in my area. I proceeded to contact MTN via email and calling the "helpline" one day out of the blue bout 6 months after I started my campaign I got a call from MTN tech desk informing me that a new tower has been installed and is operational. I have been a loyal MTN subs / prepaid customer for 15 years now. Sure they have hicups but rather the devil you know I say. Porting has never been a option for me. I am a YELLOW summer kinda guy :p. Telkom adsl nah I will never until they decide to change their policy of charging me for a voice line & data line. All I want is a freaking data line PERIOD
