Does anybody know what is happening when the 30 gig cap is reached? Is all traffic suspended or throttled down, what the story?

It depends on your ISP Imaginet/Web Africa/SAOL 30 gigs accounts still got local access afterwards. I spoke to Isoft/59.co.za and they said their 30 gigs are hardcapped to terminate so that you cannot authenticate. I don't know how Axxess's accounts work thow.

I have a feeling that Telkom is going to make all ISP's enforce a hardcap on their accounts in the future. Hope I'm wrong, but that seems like a typical Telkom move.

From the Axxess Faq

"
(Q) What happens when I reach my cap limit?
(A) Your international is slowed down but your local remains the same. This might change in August 2005.
"

It's August in a few days time. Telkom should have the common decency to inform their resellers of intended changes well in advance. It's like the blind leading the blind.

I just got news from saol, and this is what they said:

"... we use the Saix backbone. Once your cap is met , that's it, Telkom says it throttled, but with the amount of users that reach the cap the service is unusable."

Erm, let me clarify that statement:

Once your cap is met, you are placed in a ultra low priority international group - so basically international bandwidth is unusable, local traffic on the other hand is unaffected.
