3060 Ti vs 1080 Ti

I had a 1080 Ti, sold it for a decent price when I wasn't gaming much and wanted to buy something else.

Then the 3000's series came out and 1080 Ti's are cheaper now. Do I buy a 2nd hand 1080 Ti or pick up a new 3060 Ti?

They're pretty similar from what I can tell looking at userbenchmark, but is there anything that the 3000 series brings to the table that would make it more attractive?

Which would you choose?

What resolution you gaming at? 3060ti has less vram.

As an aside, don't bother looking at userbenchmark, it's an Intel site and basically changes their "methodology" so that it always has Intel ahead somehow/on a better footing than it is, and also does cut AMD slightly on GPU side.

If they're within 10% of each other in cost, the 3060 Ti is better, similar/slightly better rasterization performance while having tensor cores, so DLSS and Nvidia broadcast support.
 
While I wouldn't "upgrade" from a 1080Ti to a 3060Ti, if I were to buy now I would definitely rather get the 3060Ti, if only for DLSS 2.0.
A 1080Ti is more or less the same performance as a 2080/2070 super IIRC?

What is DLSS again? RTX is cool, I wouldn't mind playing around with it. Does a 3060 Ti have enough to RTX properly? Just asking.

I have a 4k Dell Monitor. It's an old one, 3.5 years old now. But I can always buy a 1440p 144hz monitor... But then I can also use that monitors money to get a 3070 lol. Idk, it depends really.

This is true, I have had 1 or 2 games actually use 10gb of VRAM before. One was that shadow of war game. But I had to go out of my way to try and make it that high with texture pack and settings.

This is true. I guess I should be looking at benchmarks instead.

Can do cyberpunk on Ultra @ 1080p @ 60fps with my 1080ti.
When I try to do 1440p it gets the results shown in the graphs above compared to 2080 super/3060ti without DLSS 2.0

With DLSS 2.0, you can suddenly do 1440p @ 60fps no problem. That's why the 3060ti would be better in the future, but also why it's going to remain sold out for a while still.

1080ti's can be gotten for R6500-R7500
In the best case scenario a 3060ti at MSRP bought from Amazon would be around R9000.

At the moment you won't find one on Amazon.

DLSS 2.0 is a miracle upscaler. In most games it's almost as good as native res, in some (e.g. Death Stranding) it's even better.

I have a really good Dell 4K monitor, but game on a 1440p 144hz monitor. Framerate >>> resolution.
Somehow my monitor got reset to 60hz, and I could just tell that something was wrong while playing Prey.

Also, without DLSS, the 3060Ti does better at 1440p than the 3090 does at 4K in Cyberpunk, and probably all other games.
