30gb ADSL Accounts

The question is why can only certain SAIX VISP sell the 30 gig accounts and not Telkomsa.net nor IS can sell the 30Gig accounts. Somewhere there is something not right.........

webafrica 30gb - whats the point?

my ADSL connection has been stable for months now. I never reset the router, never even give it a second thought, it just works. Never anything spectacular, but a reliable connection none the less.

Today I signed up for a 30gb webafrica account, and who wouldn't? 30GB is a lot of data, but you'll never get close to it because nothing works properly except web, news and mail. For example Edonkey won't even do a search, let alone download anything. Anyway, the line stayed connected for appox 2 hours, and then died. The router won't fo past the SENT_PADI status. I tried all my other ADSL accounts and none work except my telkomdsl512 account. I wonder whats happening? Looks to me like we are in for some serious BS, but I had that sneaky suspicion anyway.

TelkomSA could sell at a reduced rate if they wanted to, but their business model relies on the ignorance of the masses. Most people do not know of any other ISPs other than say MWeb, which uses a similar tactic. Why charge R300 for 30 gig when you can charge 10 people R250 each for 3 gig? Telkoms has no need to improve their packages, their user base is huge and it will probably stay that way for some time, irrespective of how uncompetitve their prices are, considering most people aren't even aware that there is competition. Yes, something is not right... but that would be TelkomSA not the other resellers.

In any case, i read somewhere that the resellers purchase the 30 gigs for approx R180 from telkom, so how is that unfeasible for them to offer the prices they do?

Hobit72,
I'm afraid my story is exactly the OPPOSITE ;-) I signed up last night, and got a call from richard about 5 mins later. Had some problems with standard bank (they are down), but he enabled my account anyway.
Today, I'm cruising along, downloading anything I can find ;-)

Cheers, Nick
