I unashamedly love my 360. :D
There isn't much that the PS3 fanboys can say about this except mention the Blu-ray again but even in this case that does not seem to help.

360 consoles outselling PS3 since GTA IV launch
Sales of Xbox 360 consoles are 18 per cent ahead of the PlayStation 3 in the UK since the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV, Chart-Track told Eurogamer.

Official GTA IV sales figures for the first four weeks also reveal that the Xbox 360 is the format of choice for UK gamers, with 57 per cent of the total sales of the game on 360, compared to 43 per cent on PS3.

Current Chart-Track panel sales figures place sales of the game in the UK at over 1.3 million, meaning around 750,000 copies have shifted on Xbox 360, and around 570,000 on PS3.

The effect on driving hardware sales has also been more dramatic on 360 than PS3, according to Chart-Track’s figures. Comparing sales of both consoles for the four weeks prior to GTA IV’s launch to the four weeks since its launch, hardware units have risen on 360 by 47 per cent, compared to just eight per cent on PS3.

However, taking all 21 weeks of 2008 into account, sales of PlayStation 3 in the UK are 10 per cent ahead of Xbox 360. Prior to the launch of GTA IV, the PS3 boasted a 20 per cent lead on 360.

I'm a PS3 and Xbox360 fan and I hope PS3 sales will go up again. Competition is good. I'm sure when Metal Gear Solid 4 comes out next month, the PS3 sales will go up again.

I guess the same can be said for the Xbox360 when GOW2 comes out.

The UK is one thing, the rest of Europe is another. The 360 does well in all English markets. It leads in Aus and NZ as well.

It's in the non English Countries the Xbox takes the biggest beating.

I also find it quite interesting that the 360 dominates in "other" as well. That's the likes of us, India and the middle East. All of which would be primarily English and price sensitive.

Well if anybody wants to buy a XBOX 360.... Let me know cos my gathers dust while PS3 keeps me smiling

I don't really find it surprising, if they are assuming that GTA:IV is the reason people are buying consoles, surely it would make sense to buy the cheaper one and the one that gives you better multiplayer and extra stories (soonish)?

I'd still a prefer a WiiStation360 :/

I heard/read somewhere that by 2015 we'd have a unified console ... yay

this si the biggest load of bull i ever seen, they have said worlwide sales ps3 has been outselling xbox360!! sorry loosers

Europe PS3 sales 'overtake 360'
By Darren Waters
Technology editor, BBC News website

A price cut in the summer of last year helped lift PlayStation 3 sales

Sony's PlayStation 3 games console has outsold Microsoft's Xbox 360 in Europe, according to figures released by Sony.

More than five million PS3s have been sold across the continent, Sony's David Reeves confirmed.

Speaking at a European PlayStation event in London, he said: "The numbers are a testament to the strength of the PlayStation brand."

He said PlayStation 3 had been outselling the Xbox 360 since October last year.

"We have sold more PlayStation 3s throughout Europe than Xbox 360 even though they launched 16 months before us."

Mr Reeves, head of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, also said 12 million PSP handheld consoles and 48 million PlayStation 2s had been sold in Europe.

Despite Sony's overhauling of Microsoft in Europe, both firms' sales are a long way behind the Nintendo Wii.

Price tag

Sony has managed to overtake Xbox 360 sales despite a much higher price tag.

The cheapest PS3 is available for ÂŁ299, versus ÂŁ159 for the Xbox 360.

"We have been consistently outselling our closest competitor [Xbox 360] since October 2007, even with the latest price point," said Mr Reeves.

Microsoft cut the price of Xbox 360 in March.

The PS3 is far more mass market than 360, which has gone for traditional adult males

Nick Parker, games consultant

The figures will cheer Sony after a painful launch period for the machine, which saw delays, stock problems and criticism from gamers that early titles for the machine were below par.

Kaz Hirai, Sony's global head of PlayStation, said the first year of PS3 had been difficult.

Speaking at the London event, he said: "There were teething problems... and customers were a little underwhelmed by early games."

'No surprise'

He said Sony was going to promote the PS3 as a "multi-faceted interactive entertainment system" in the year ahead.

Games consultant Nick Parker said it was "no surprise" that PlayStation had overtaken Xbox in Europe.

"The PlayStation has held out remarkably well over the last 18 months despite the press slating it because of the price. People got behind the brand.

"The PS3 is far more mass market than 360, which has gone for traditional adult males - and that does not go down well in continental Europe."

He said consumers in Europe had "never gotten over the design ethos of the original Xbox."

Microsoft had set out to broaden the appeal of its titles "but never did come up with the goods", he went on.

The Xbox 360 was performing well in the UK but has a "problem on the continent".

He said PlayStation 3 had "every chance" of overtaking the Xbox 360 in its heartland of North America in the next two to three years.

Agreed, it's actually pretty much given that Tekken will be Xplat, - Namco Bandai is pretty good at it and have done it with most of their Franchises already, like Soul Calibre.

I don't really find it surprising, if they are assuming that GTA:IV is the reason people are buying consoles, surely it would make sense to buy the cheaper one and the one that gives you better multiplayer and extra stories (soonish)?

Actually I think that's not the whole truth. Rock Band is a timed exclusive to the 360 in Europe, and know ing the market, that, or at least the combination of that and GTA would probably be the biggest driving factors.

@imaginary_friend he was merely express his anticipation. If you want to start "exclusive bashing" the PS3 is going to come off second best in a big way, so lets leave it at "both have some nice games coming".

And then you woke up?

Don't be ridiculous... the same should be true of computers, yet there is still not a unified platform.

Another person that is not up to date. *sigh*

The RROD is old news mate, move on...that has been fixed ages ago already.
Funny even with the old RROD-ing 360, 360 owners were still playing more games than the PS3 owners.

yep .. with all those breakdowns , ppl need to buy new ones ... *grinz*

Uh, maybe you should go read up about how your precious PS3 has been suffering a similar fate to the first generation of Xbox 360s in that it has been know to have cooling problems.

Exactly. The PS3 has been having its own share of problems as of late. I've personally never had a problem with my 360...ever.
