A week or so ago I was not registered (see other RICA threads). I go to RICA this morning and, 'automagically', I have been RICA'd. Yay. MTN are the best! Not going to fight it: too much effort and RICA is a toothless joke anyway.

I think its good that it does'nt phase you ++
But I am a tin foil hat wearer and i do have issues with signing away my privacy, especially WHEN I NEVER ****EN SIGNED FOR IT!!!! (not shouting at you budza, at the system )

I think that the president should call for a public holiday tomorrow so that all those who have not RICA’d can have an opportunity to do so.

The whole RICA thing is an expensive, pointless exercise. How much money did telcos have to spend to build systems to track this? How many man-hours have been allocated to collecting this information? How many hours have consumers spent waiting in queues to RICA their phone?

At for what benefit? Do they really think this will reduce crime? As another person pointed out, how many of the details captured are accurate? The government has been unable to stop false documents and guns from flooding the streets. Is it realistic to think that an immediate market for laundered cell phones won't emerge?

Governments are always quick to pass legislation without consideration of its impact (both desired and unintended) or the cost to society.
