37142 virus infected files!

LOL.. It would seem that pc was infected by the newest version of the W32.Virut virus..

Believe me it's a pain in the @ss to remove.. I basically infects any .exe or .scr file it can get it's hands on.. Worst of all the place I work for only sells Panda Antivirus Pro 2009, which only picks up the infected files as suspicious and then quarintine's them.
So after the full scan with Panda your Windows is also fu*ked because most of the windows exe's where quarintined.

The only real solution was the get Dr. Web Cure It! and burn a copy of it onto a BartPe disc & scan it with that. I fixed most exe's by removing the infected part out of the file.
The only thing to do after was just a SFC /Scannow (System File Checker) and then the machine was fine... Then just re-install any additional program that might have had errors on.

Dillyduck statement of the day

(that's right people, just format every time you have an infection ... it's much easier than simply using AV software )

I mean with 37k infections Format C:......

if you only have 10 or 20 go with the AV software. I like to use "Anti Vir" its freeware and shareware a license only cost like 200 Rand a year.

Dudes, dudes, dudes. CTFD. It's obviously easier to just format, but for those who just assume that as an option without asking, you are all morons. The client has POS software installed without the installtion disks, hence the difficult route.

lol, It would be easier to format & reload :)

Formatting is for sissies. Back in the day when bootsector viruses were the norm (DOS and Windows 3.x), some people would format but they only really needed to boot a DOS disk and do "SYS C:" and retain their system.

sissies . . .

well im running my office pc that's connected to the net 24/7 for the past 9 months without any anti virus/malware software. only guard i have is a tray utility that blocks usb autorun infections. and believe me it's pretty clean.

the point im trying to make here is not that anti virus software and trying to fix errors is bad, BUT simply that anyone who is 'gifted' enough to have their pc infected so badly would be better off formatting than trying all these so-called cleaning tools and procedures to try and fix it.

another reason why i dont have any av software installed is because i enjoy disinfecting a pc manually :D the last one i had was some sys32.exe infection that hid itself in the sysrestore folder. took safemode and some registry edits to eliminate it. any way . . . its fun cleaning a pc. but when it's messed up to bad then format saves you time.

people generally think that because they have av and anti malware apps installed that they can safely click ok on any prompt or open any attachment etc etc without ever getting some gremlins
