Protocol analyzer will tell them.
Also, most VPN traffic is encrypted.
There is nothing wrong with using a VPN though... Thats standard usage for work purposes or just accessing remote locations that belong to you.
If someone is using a VPN service to bypass the shaping policies of the various South African ISP’s, how are these ISP’s able to detect that you are using VPN to bypass their shaping? Do they look at your monthly usage and if it’s extraordinarily high (eg. 800GB), do they investigate further? Do they just have to prove that you downloaded an extremely large amount of data, and from that, infer that is would not have been possible unless you bypassed their shaping policy?
I work on some overseas servers which I HAVE to connect to via VPN to protect privacy, data transfer amounts from these servers to my IP is also substantial (DB backups etc)
If they tell me I am misusing the service I will give them the finger, as i cannot use another protocol without losing my job.
Security is #1 priority when dealing with confidential data, and script kiddies do try. Point in fact: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/371664-Ever-cracked-WPA?goto=newpost
I am a home user as well as a home business owner - I do not see the necessity to get a business line to fulfill my needs. You ARE using a business uncapped account then, aren't you?
You're using your line for business purposes. It's not about your needs, it's about a service geared for the home user. But please, by all means, move LOTS of data around via your VPN connection. I look forward to reading your rant about cancelling/having your account cancelled for breaching the FUP.I am a home user as well as a home business owner - I do not see the necessity to get a business line to fulfill my needs.
As it stands, the home product is working sufficiently so I have no complaints - just saying if they decide to 'flag' my usage - I will leave them in a heartbeat - with no cancellation period, as their own advertising states *Ideal for video calling, downloads and running a small office*
If they decide to argue the matter, I will take them to the ASA, with (I think) some good results.

Wow, that's quite a lot of data. What line of work are you in? Torrent transmissions?![]()

At most I do 150Gb a month, averaging 80+
