Does anyone have inside info if the smaller ADSL packages (384, 512) are going to be upgraded to higher speeds anytime soon?

i wish ... i think they gonna milk us as long as possible :|

I hope there's metro fibre where I live. Seriously hoping that Neotel Fibre is launched for home users it won't be uncapped has long has it's more than 20 gig.

Speculation has been going on for so long I have lost hope. I can't understand why Telkom insist on such a huge gap between the slowest and the fastest connections.

That is exactly what I don't understand. There is no small medium and large packages. Its more like... extremely small, super small and now, almost large. If they offered a 1mb line, imagine how many people would jump on.

I presume there could be a few clients on a 1Mbps or 2Mbps profile that they could lose cash if they introduced a 1Mbps Profile for a discounted price or just up the 384 peeps to 1Mbps for the current 384 rate.

I think its possible that they may never upgrade 384 users. Given the fact that some users are very far away from the DSLAM, and some have bad copper, its highly likely that a large percentage of ADSL users might only be able to sync up to 384. They might do something like they did with 4Mbps and say "up to x Mbps". A free upgrade would be nice tho hey. But I agree 384 is really slow in this modern day and age. I think Telkom should charge you for the speed you can sync at, and you can opt to have it made slower if you want to pay less. E.g. If you want 4mbps but you can only sync at 1.3Mbps, they should only charge you for the 1.3Mbps.

I think Telkom should charge a flat rate for a DSL line .. and you sort out the speed via your ISP

It's Africa. To us, 384k is broadband. Apparently. The govt/dept. that comes up with the rules and definitions for this stuff needs to move with the time. The definition of Broadband needs to change every so often. If they increase the minimum speed to around 1Mb, Telkom will have to make a move.

Till then, I doubt we will see any movement on the issue from the scumbags.

Once "broadband" registers in Julius Malema's Pedi dictionary, Telkom will provide you with proper broadband connections :p
