384 ADSL going to be free

Has anybody heard the rumours that the slowest ADSL from Telkom is going to be free? At first I thought that it was rubbish but I have spoken to a few guys who have said the same thing. I am guessing that they will just make it part of one of their Closer Bundles which doesn't help me because I only use the line for DSL...

if there is any truth to it, it might be that Telkom are trying to get the edge over Neotel. If they really want to compete, the services they offer should be upgraded to international standards.

Telkom might make the line (physical connection) free, but you still will have to pay for the data consumed.

But we are all in the dark here, best is to wait and see what happens here.

Thats excluding the Line rental portion i rate...
drop ADSL connection charge, obviously bandwidth will be as usual

even if they dropped the line rental, and subsidised that into the ADSL portion.

I doubt it very much.

But if it were true, they likely mean that the R152 - or whatever it is - that you pay in line rental would be removed. You'd still pay for the telephone line and whatever data you use, and most likely you'd also have to include a Telkom Internet data bundle in there.

It's not impossible, but I find it unlikely. They'd probably have to lower the price of their faster lines to keep them viable - especially the 512kbps line.

Scrapping the 384kps rental - This has no chance of happenning.

What is most likely going to happen is the Telkom analogue line rental will be scrapped. This will save us about R110 per month. This also makes more sense since Neotel has indicated they won't charge a "line rental".
