So I've downloaded ~34GB on my 384k line at home, never using it during weekdays and downloading at night and weekends mostly from news servers using SSL. My ISP has recently switched me to an IS account (see if you can guess who they are) and I'm now seeing ridiculous speeds with downloads hovering around 10-12KB at this very minute. This also applies to online "streaming" (read: buffering) video. I've also noticed that the line speed is regularly dropping to 0KB which is also a new experience since the change. I'm not sure if it's a shaping thing or some other network problem but it has only appeared since I was switched to a new account. Basically, do you guys think this is a result of my usage?

34 gigs on a 384 line... That's hardly epic if you consider that at the very most you're using something like 45kB/s' worth of bandwidth and that can hardly be considered 'abuse.' Also, I thought that 'abuse' was more to do with bypassing shaping than your actual usage.

No idea who your ISP is but.... I'm all for OpenWeb :D

I have Skype video calls running pretty much the moment my PC goes on until the moment my PC gets turned off. I download the odd games off Steam, the odd demos and whatever else piques my fancy. I don't really torrent and I don't use news servers (I haven't felt the need for either in a very long time, actually) and I can pretty much guarantee I use more than 35 gigs a month. I'm on a gold uncapped account.

*shrug* Get a new ISP or ask to switch to a different backbone provider.

Did you download this during the month period? Depends what their terms and conditions states. I reckon but they makeup their own rules most of the time and on the fly. Dont feel bad bro - if you are on the top 50% of IS users for your line speed you will be knocked down and shaped to hell. Trust me I'm here too for the last couple of days again.

Thats the extend of shaping and throtteling for you.

Thing is they need to show us their STAR / Demerit system which only goes public on the 1st of September :p

I've got a 384 line, uncapped, unshaped. I've used 26gig's in 12 days, so thats like 2gigs per day. Is that bad?

Time to let your provider know how you feel but cancelling and signing up with someone else.

I've done about 40GB this month on a 512k line with Mweb without trying. After 9pm I've been running at about 90% line speed, and after 10pm it's been going at full speed.

Only the devil know, and he doesn't tell, with MWEB nobody can actually tell you what's what.

MWeb doesn't resell IS accounts so he's not with Mweb. And 34Gb on a 384k line is easily enough to put him into the top 20% of users for his line speed, so he's being throttled.

Nah I dont think so, but the ISP's do. AUP takes precedence and u will be throttled and or shaped to your knees.

Check on the IS user website what it says if you are still running with full access or what.
