Hey guys i wanna know would a 384kbps line be ok for 2 users on afrihost?
i need to know how the browsing would be like and if it can handel to online users for gaming to the U.S?
or would you recommend the 512 for 2 users?

Also, if you thinking uncapped, it's limited to 1 session. I read somewhere there is a chap who games with his roommate off the same line. 384

Depends on type of game. If both are RTS then its fine.

You're kidding right? I have a 384 @ home, with 3 users online. I play Modern Warfare 2, while actively downloading large ISO's from USA servers, just fine.
No not kidding. But now very interested in your setup.

ISP?
Router?
Download app? Throttling on it? What speed do you get without throttling?

I'd also appreciate it if you tried this:
Start->Run->cmd->Then:

C:\Users\HX>ping -n 100 www.mybroadband.co.za

Pinging www.mybroadband.co.za [41.203.21.136] with 32 bytes of data

Once its running load a heavy page in the browser. Like Gmail inbox or something. (Thats what I used in the above). To post it right click on the icon at the top left of the cmd window, select Edit->Mark. And then same again for Edit->Copy.

Thanks

You obviously don't care if you're bullets magically disappear on the internet due to the huge latency you will have. As Havoc pointed out, if there is inconsistent data coming through (i.e. surfing) you're going to get huge spikes in your ping and you WILL lag. I have this experience with both HoN and Dota whenever my brother surfs (I don't even bother to play CoD or TF2 when my brother is at home). Both HoN/Dota are less sensitive to spikes than any FPS because they aren't games based entirely on reflex.

If you're downloading then your ping will be higher but it will be consistent (e.g. 60-80 ping without downloads vs 200-250 with throttled downloads). This doesn't apply to torrents since they will eat your upload speed, making gaming impossible.

So yeah, 384k is fine for doing one thing at a time. E.g. 2 people gaming on low bandwidth games. The moment you mix it up, it goes to *** for the person gaming.

384kbps should be fine for 2 people playing (even FPS) games. If you bargain on getting a maximum of 42KB/s on a 384kbps line, then you can have 2 people playing FPS games on 4Mbps rates (20kB/s down).

Have a look at this thread with regards to selecting the ISP for international gaming.

384kbps just won't do if 1 person is playing and the other is browsing, unless you DEDICATE HALF of the bandwidth to each person with a proper router like the MikroTik RB750.
384kbps won't be enough for 2 people hosting 2 separate DotA games, but it should be enough for hosting one and being on TeamSpeak at the same time.

There's a chance that the 384kbps lines would be upgraded to 512kbps on 1st of June.
