On Saturday at 9:30 am I decided to upgrade my 384 kbps line to 512 kbps. I phoned Telkom and spoke to a consultant.
He said that it is a seamless process that I can do over the phone and it will take effect almost immediately. I asked what "almost immediately" mean. He explained that it can be immediately but it sometimes takes 24 hours to take effect. He told me that it's an automated process and that he needs to move my details to a different server or something.

So I said. "OK great I'll upgrade." he took details etc. then said "OK it's done". It's now Sunday 1:40 pm and still when I do a bandwidth test it's exactly the same as my 384kbps test on www.speedtest.net.
362kbps down, 112 upload. 92ms ping on average. So obviously this haven't been upgraded yet. :(

Is there a way to check online if this has been done?
or do I just wait till tomorrow 12:00, and if not done, phone them again?

Just want to get other people's experiences on this and find out if there is a way for me to check this myself.

Thank you

You can check what rate your router is syncing at, it will change to 512 when the upgrade is done. When I upgraded to 4mbit on Monday they told me up to 72 hours, but it took 5 minutes...

You mean the data rate?
Still says 384 / 128.

Do you think it's because it is weekend at the moment that it's not done yet? or must I be a little more patient?

Not that I have done an upgrade myself, but wouldn't you need to reset the router?

I don't think so, but I did switch it off and on again. No change.

anywhere else to do a speedtest?
I also did this test with 384, and it wasnt the same as his at all, way worse!!
thanks

Slapdash, it has happend to me before (for a non ADSL matter), that u speak to someone at Telkom, they say that they action it, and then when u follow it up nobody knows what the Hellkom u r talking about...

I think their IT systems r very buggy and loses orders, but thats just my guess...

Edit: I assume u have called them by now and have some kind of answer? Be sure to get a ref no if u call again... and make a note of what date they activate u and compare to the bill u finally receive!!! Dont let them charge u for 512k from date 1 if they only activated u on date 2! Good luck :)

BTW, your sync speed has is not necesarily an indication of your line speed. At home my modem is synced to 512 but my line speed is 384.

Hey guys, they upped it yesterday and about 30 minutes later I got a call from their Service quality department wanting to know how the service consultant was.

So all in all not as bad as I expected.. thanks for the advise.
