Hi Guys,

I went to visit my mother who lives out in semi-rural area. The exchange was ADSL enable around 3 years ago.

I had a look at her router and she is still syncing at 384k.

Q's:

1) Am I misinformed but didnt Telkom upgrade all 384k lines to 1mb?

2) Below is a paste of her SNR, bearing in mind this is rural there is noise to be expect. There does appear to be interference. Is this perhaps the reason why the speed has not been up'ed to 1mb?

Line State: Showtime
Modulation: G.DMT
Annex Mode: ANNEX_A

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin: 45.0 21.0 db

Line Attenuation: 20.0 31.5 db

Data Rate: 384 128 kbps

And a speedtest for completeness..

Thanks in advance :)

Phone 10210 get to the ADSL technical support ask for free upgrade to 1mbps. Might not work, but its worth a shot - for major metro areas it'll work99%, for rural its hit & miss. They haven't automatically upgraded everyone yet.

SNR etc will be fine. Most lines can do 2mbps without breaking a sweat.

EDIT: Props on providing complete information..if only all requests for help were like that.

There is basically NO noise on that line, your SNR values is way to good for that, anything above 29db is outstanding.

The same goes for the attenuation, 20db is very good and you wont have any trouble with line speed problems.

But as MickeyD said, the upgrades is still in progress.

Yep line upgrade are still in process.

My gf's line was only updated today or yesterday, and what a difference it makes thank goodness.

Didn't phone or anything, just waited and it happened eventually. Maybe wait just a little more and then bother Telkom.

Thanks all, I will give 10210 a call. I am not feeling to confident they will do much. At least I now know the roll-out is still happening and she hasn't been forgotten in the process.

Thanks again!
