Ok NOW I'm not feeling warm and fuzzy ... I just read the details of that package on hellkom .. I'd REALLY like someone to confirm this for me ...

From what I understand:
The 512k Package:
3Gb Cap - Then Int very limited, Local unlimited

The 384k Package:
3Gb Cap - Then Int very limited AND Local ALSO very limited ...

Please say it ain't so ...

Well, according to Telkom's main "New Services Line" and their web site:

The ONLY difference between the 512K and 384K option is the maximum achievable speed.

This is just a rumour, as regardtv says, the services are exactly the same except for price and speed - and that comes directly from Telkoms page and 3 of the support staff I've spoken to over the phone.

OMG ...

Ok just phoned the call centre again ... 4 people ... 2 different answers ...

Waiting for a manager to phone me back ... ja right ....
 
I hope so .. otherwise it would make the 384k package even worse then it is ...

Updates stats:

Call centre Staff indicating local & international capped: 7
Call centre Staff indicating only international capped : 4
Call Centre managers that have NOT phoned me back : 2
Call Centre managers that have phoned me back : 0

*EDIT* .. Hey, the odds are getting better ;-)
 
If you asked them the same question about the 512 package, I bet they would give you the same answers. Most of them don't know that only international is capped and local is not affected.

I just find it so frustrating that you are forced to use a company for a service but their staff knows almost nothing about the actual product.

I really appreciate the effort guys :) I fear that I will only find out the hard way, ie: once my cap is reached

Isn't it Ironic. Telkom the Telephone Company that is well known never to return phone calls. The very service they provide.
As the issue of not returning phone calls cannot be of a financial one. One can ponder what is their problem?

If I find I'm locally capped on 384k ICASA will be hearing from me.

Because:
Telkom did not indicate this on their advertising.
I was assured this was not the case by the new services rep I spoke to when placing my downgrade order.

Personally I believe it will just be a lower speed version of ADSL.
