Hey guys,got a stupid noob ?

If I was to upgrade to a 4 mb line, will my chances of linking to Saix improve a whole lot or none at all.

By SAIX you mean the gaming servers. Well i upgraded a while back and my ping to saix servers on bf2 went from about 45ms to about 25ms, I have a mate who lives in about the same area in Durban and he has a 384 line, his ping is about 20 to 25ms more than mine.

The other sweet thing about the 4mb is that I can have 3 people playing bf2 all at the same time and all our pings will be in the range of about 35ms.

Im sure many will agree, 4mb FTW!

oh, yes and no. I am not to sure how the news servers work on the saix side with respect to caching but on the IS side if the stuff is cached on the news servers (and assuming the news server isn't overloaded) then you can cruise along at about 420 KB/s. Otherwise if its not cached then you are in the same boat as the other line speeds.

try reading the thread dedicated to the news servers

I have a 384 line and often use friends' 4Mb line... there is the mother of all differences....
It's just so much better.

you shouldn't tease yourself like that, you might go mad :D as i read from a post a while back "get 384, use it for 4 months, upgrade to 4mb then change your pants"

no responding to the newsserver bit, but the difference in what if offers from your 384 line , is amazing.

384 vs 4MB, simply put - no contest.

The nice thing about 384 though is you don't finish your cap "too fast"... on my line I can finish my cap in a day. On a 4Mb I can finish it in 2 hours...

aaahhhh yes, but there is nothing better than watching a download screaming along at 400+ KB and pulling over a gig in an hour, your positive about the 384 line is probably the only thing it has going for it :)

i dont know hey as to regards in playing battlefield,, i played on a 384kb line and my ping was about 27 give or take 5 during the game. i play now at a different location, same city and my ping with axxess local, was about 30 - 40, alot of the times it would also go to around 27. now i played on telkom, and my ping is arounf 45. saix, if you get a connection, you might get a speed of around 5 -10 KB/s. uncached,, and i presume it would be like that for the 4 mb line anyway, otherwise mine would be higher,

True... my friend used to download Prison Break (350MB) off the torrents in under 30 minutes....
It takes me 7 hours to get a Linux distro off the p2p network (700MB) :D

i've pulled an episode of top gear (800mb) in about 40 minutes off the news servers(when they actually worked!) I could technically at that speed watch it streamed :D

30Gb's over a weekend, from the Friday Evening at about 9.30 by sunday - I am totally lost as to what else to get. That is via int torrents and not even off the local news servers

That's why I don't bother downloading up until the 3rd weekend of the month and then I can get all I want.

But have since stopped , there's nothing like a 8ms ping. One guy remarked once that he believes I live next to the exchange.

with an 8ms ping I reckon you're sleeping in a tent next to the exchange :D
