I am looking to get an ADSL line installed at home, but want to know if a 384k line we cut it when playing on the WOW eu servers. Anyone play on a 384k line?
 
I'm on 512k. Get 300ms usually. Friend of mine on 1024k gets the same.
Theres virtually no difference in latency between 384k to even 4meg. What matters is, is it unshaped, and is it routed via fibre intl. links instead of sattelite. These are the questions you gotta ask your isp.

Was thinking of getting the DoBroadband 384 bundle with telkom, but Just want to check if they are shaped or not (pretty sure it is shapped though). Otherwise will get the line and a 1gig or so from Axxess.

That should be ok right?

NO NO NO! Not TelkomInternet, ever, ever!

WebAfrica or Axxess should be good. No Telkom, NO!
 
LOL! ok. Telkom bad ... must listen to voices!

I'll put a request through to Axxess today. They seem to have the best prices and I like the whole pre-paid opition.

Im on an Axxess 384kbps line... latt is ntb (250-350ms with reg hack) and i play EU
 
At work we have a 4M line (unshapped) and it's also at about 300-400 lat. And thats bypassing the firewall too. Guess line speed really doesn't matter then.
 
Don't mean to piss on anyone's fire...but I get the best shaped ping with Telkom *runs and hides, wildly shaking palm branches along the way*

Telkom is da enemy!

I have a 384k line and the following:

2 x WoW accounts (My son and I)
2 x Vent

Occasionally my sons friend comes over and then we running 3 accounts simultaneously on the one line.

I am using Webafrica atm (Unshaped) and my pings are:
Before the tcpAcksfrequency change thingy (Sorry, I am not a tecchie type): 380 - 550ms
After doing the change: 250 - 400 with an average of around 320ms

So yes, you can run WoW with no problems on a 384k line, I just wouldn't tie myself into a contract or a DoFraudband package.

ISP's that have been recommended on this forum:
Web Africa (ftw!) (Not to punt WA, but I like the fact that one can switch between SAIX and Verizon)
AXXESS
Openweb
 
384 Line, Axxess unshaped, no problems to Twilight's Hammer - EU.
Even had 3 guys playing from my house at the same time, all on Teamspeak, with no problem.
 
Yup I also have/had played on 384KB line and just fine. Also had 2 people using the line with voice chat and vent and no issue. And shocking enough with 1.8mb HSDPA i get way worse connections, lag and I can well forget about using vent as once I press the talk button to chat on vent I get disconnected lol.

As long as ur using unshapped account on ur dsl line ull be fine :)

Cant wait to have my line installed in my new place next month \o/
 
maybe one should start a sticky for ISP's and what they provide in terms of MS and downtime!

im too lazy to look, i just read one mamoth epic thread so my eyes hurt!!

So I gotta find another ISP for my ADSL line.. :P
