Hi Guys

Ol doofness here, could u in simple terms tell me how fast is 384kpbs on Telkom Broadband ADSL option

Thx

48KB/s :p

This is the max I get on my 384k line.

Initial spikes in speed don't count ;) Due to overheads your line is limited to max 40kB/s.

You'll notice that you probably only get 48kB/s when a download just begins, or while a file is being decoded. That's not your true speed, just a spike.

It's a joke!

This is a laugh - from http://www.scanyourpc.com

"Here are your Internet speed results:
237 kilobits per second. Test Again

Status: Your Internet connection may be damaged or malfunctioning. :sick:High-speed Internet connections typically have the most inefficiency and room for improvement"

Hooray for Telskum!

Htf are you guys getting more than 384kbps? It should be closer to 320kbps

Oh and LOL @ flysouth's internet connection being damaged!! :D

Using an IS local-only account on my 384 kbps line :
Down : 318 kbps
Up : 536 kbps

Act of God. Technical anomaly. Glitch. Or in plain English, an ERROR!
Or maybe your line has a split personality?

No not an error - my upstream bandwidth is faster than my downstream and has been like that for a while now (ever since my modem started syncing at 3-4mbps).
The downstream is restricted to 384kbps but the upstream is the same as for a 4mbps line (640kbps).
I phoned Telkom and none of the call center staff could tell me why it's like that so I just decided I'll leave it at that. It certainly helps with uploading data to overseas.
I sent ~10GB of e-mail attachments last month. :D
