3D Blue Ray Movies

depends on your player, some can play it(also depending if the 3d bluray itself supports non 3d playing) and some can't.

PS3s can play 3D movies..

Since there's no such thing, I'll assume you mean a Blu-ray player.

Some can, but will only play the standard movie, others are completely incompatible, that's why they usually (in all the movies I've seen) include a non-3D disc as well.

Another will a 3d player say Sony, play 3d ( which I know will come out as 2d ) , 2d blue ray and dvd discs on a standard 2d led tv? Have read most 3d players will not!!!!

Some discs ask you to choose which version you want to watch, ie 2d or 3d when the disc loads
others are 3d only and some come with 2d+3d discs

My 3d blu ray player will not play a 3d only disc on my non-3d tv

Ok thx, as long as I don't waste my money buying a sony 3d player which will not play a 2d blu ray on my 2d led!!

G'day, does anyone know if you can play a 3D blue ray in your non 3D blue ray player??
Yes, Blu-ray 3D media was designed to be backward compatible.

To a non 3D player the disc will look like a normal 2D disc. Only 3D players have the ability to find the additional info on the disc to do 3D.

Then they are out of spec.

The left track on a 3D disc should look exactly like a 2D disc and the right track should be undetectable to a non 3D player.

Is it possible to download the 3D track and merge it to a regular 2D rip? The same way you would with subtitles.

Strange, I suspect there is some other glitch in play. A 3D player should behave exactly like a 2D player if it doesn't detect its connected to a 3D output device.

Have checked this out with my PS3s when I override the 3D handshake with my (3D) TVs. I've also played 3D discs fine (in 2D) when the PS3 believes its not connected to a 3D TV.

Anyway I have both of those discs, will try them out when I get a gap.

cool
I think its disc dependent and not hardware related though

Yep, tried on the kids PS3 connected to LA40C530 (non-3D) LCD and both showed a message that they cant be played at 2D.

I suspect these discs have been specifically doctored not to play 2D since they are both bundled Samsung 3D demo discs. Probably a licensing condition for the bundling.

I haven't seen this happen on retail/rental discs.
