I have run 3D Mark vantage on my rig a few times now and I am not sure what to make of the score.

I scored 7487 as my highest out of 3 runs, the fastest system they claim got 35766 and the specs on that system were better but not THAT much better.

Does this score sound right for my specs? Seems a little off to me?

Specs:

Intel i5 750 @ 3.1 Ghz
4 GB DDR3 1600 Mhz
Saphire 5850 (stock)
Seagate 7200 HDD
Thermaltake 500 W PSU.

Cheers,
Grim

Naaa dude that seems low.

Can that PSU handle your card? Have you tested it with your cpu at default settings? Might be a bad overclock perhaps. Something seems very wrong though.

I would expect a score of about 3000 higher... but I might be wrong. Are you running any heavy applications in the background?

Eish, Im not sure about the PSU, maybe that is the issue? I thought it would be enough, I did a online test and it said I needed 400W. Surely with a PSU it either works or it doesn't?

Nope not running anything in the background.

O and yeah I tested it at default and I got 6000 :( So not the overclock.

I think I need to also mention, that since I upgraded my PSU has been making some strange noises. I am not sure if it is the fan, but every 10 seconds or so it makes some weird "grrrrrrr" noise, sounds like it could be a seizing fan but not sure

Yeah, you should defnitly be scoring higher there...
I ran:
dual core 8400 (3ghz)
2gigs ddr 2 800
gf 9800gt
seagate 7200
Gigabyte 585w PSU
Gigabyte g31 motherboard

12292 score

maybe do yourself a favour and download the latest driver packs for your pc
Specifics being your chipsets, graphics card
You may be surprised how much of an improvement this can make, truely

Head for your Cmos, check up on your system health bar, you should see an extimated voltage readout on your 5v and 12v lines, your 12v line is going to be the biggie, if its above 12v its normaly a good sign but shouldnt fluctuate outside 0.5v, send it back if thats the case, it could be doing more damage than harm.

When your looking at graphics cards... yes the total watts can make a difference, but could you do me a fav and check on the amps the 12v line is putting out? This should be on the sticker on your power suply directly

Cheers guz

Thanks for the reply Mike. Yeah then I definately should be getting more. Ouch.

I will check up on those.

Just a quick question though, when selecting which suits to run in 3DMark, It selects all by default is that correct?

Run it on the performance preset. Post your overall score, GPU score and CPU score here

Thanks Silver, will do that tonight and post the score.

Is it possible the PSU could be the issue though? Surely with a PSU it either works or it doesn't?

Not always hey, sometimes it can limit the performance if it is not able to supply enough power i think.

Can you run 3dmark 06? How do games run?

I am busy downloading 06, will give that a run tonight.

Games run lekker, I mean I am running BFBC2 on full settings with 2 x AA and its pretty darn smooth.

MW2 I have noticed some jitters on high, some maps it seems certain areas of maps lag bad. Dunno why?

The lag is bad on some maps in mw2 specially that map with the broken planes in the middle, My pc flippin crawls on that map for some reason.

Yeah its flipping weird.

But yeah generally system performance seems fine, as I said it runs BC2 on full without an issue.

Surely PSU issues would result in random freezes, reboots?

I wonder if I am just buying to much into the 3D mark score. I will run 06 and see what that spits out.

Well this is what i got:
P18494 3DMarks
CPU: 17918 @ 4GHz
Graphics: 18694 @ 960/1150
forgot to change my settings in MSI afterburner :)

Thanks for that peanut :)

I think I have made a bit of a boo boo, getting my versions mixed up.....I have been running PC mark vantage, not 3DMark, I assume that is my issue.

I am busy downloading 3DMark 06 and will run that and see. No more whiskey and bench marks for me.
