i just did the 3D Mark 06 test and scored 12272 points... is this "normal" score do you think? i just built it myself and it's my "first" so i am a little curious..

i am running a
DQ 45 CB Mobo
Q9300 QUAD CORE 2.5
4 GIG Ram 667
1x 500gig HDD
2X 250GIG HDD
9800 GT 1 GIG graphics card
XP Pro..

i know that the ram is a little below spec, but what speed should i aim for and will it make a noticable difference???

It looks about right just remember there is no real software support for Quad core out yet so it would probably be a little more as soon as they release proper software for quad core. As for the ram going for 800 or 1066 ram will make a difference but not a very big one. Am not sure if it's worth spending the cash on bigger ram when it comes to performance vs price.

Well my specs are lower than yours and I score in the 12000 region without much trouble...Strange

so where could my problem be then? like i said, it is the first time i have ever built a pc from scratch...

Depends on if the dualies are oc'ed, unoc'ed quads are usually slower than dualies clock for clock so a dualie will beat a quad most times.

12k sounds about right for that system

He is running XP so no vantage unless i have the wrong version.

Side note can vantage be run on an XP system as my version says i must use Vista

i tried Vantage too, but was told Vista only.... if you like Vantage, why not 3dmark06?.. smae meat different gravy surely...

Soz, forgot about the Vista part :D

3dMark06 feels old and I feel that hardware has changed alot since it's release... I've seen a bigger difference in score when you add "another 2 cores" than when you add another gpu, but games work the other way around...
