I personally have the Samsung SA950 27" and I think it is worth every single cent i paid for it.........for it's 120Hz, and the 120Hz alone. For 3D? Forget it.
I think 3D still has such a long hill to climb before I will ever use it. I think I must have used the 3D capabilities of the screen twice. And that was when I first got it.
I bought the screen for gaming, to get the full frames my graphics card was pushing out. And i can promise you, it is night and day between the standard 60Hz screen, and the 120Hz. It is like liquid!
But in all honesty, i think if you find 3D at the movies a worthwhile trip, then I think the cheaper 3D alternative might be something to look into, which is the LG range of 3D screens. I would have gone that route, if it was 120Hz, which it isn't unfortunately. 120Hz comes at a price, R6999 to be exact. Eina!
Summary, if it will be used for gaming, I say 100% get one. For movies, if you are picky on quality, give it a skip. If you dont really care, and just want that little depth to the material, go the LG route.
