3d Printers South Africa

They were nicnamed the fire starter. Very cheaply made in china printer with many of the safeguards in the firmware disabled.
Easily solved by flashing

But yea then you have to go through the tedious task of editing the config file

As easy as it is somehow i allways forget something ot accidentaly enable the wrong probe option

Its fixable but you need to redo some wiring and replace the firmware. On a machine that was barely usable. It was a big part of the 3d printing history but I wouldn't bother trying to use one today.

I dont think they can govern how we use printers. If they couldnt get their money from E-toll fines.
The problem is that once this gets the green light in Washington, it may be adopted elsewhere and before you know it, it may be embedded into every modern printer that is sold. I hope the 3d printing community resists this ***.

we shall resist

Ello,

Mind sharing what you have considered your most useful 3d print thus far?

Ello,

Off the top of my head.I've printed quite few things that are/were in daily use.

Long ago I designed my own corexy printer and printed that.
All sorts of other printers and mods
Printer drawer for stuff under the printer.
Drill bit holder.
Organisers(screwdrivers and other tools)
Hard drive caddy.
Mounting points for gas lifts on my bar flap.
Auto Fish feeder
All sorts of jigs and things
Mountings(android TV, rc cars/planes, cabling etc)
Rubber stoppers, door stops of various kinds.
RC planes of my design and other designers.
Moulds(rc plane fuselage, tail fins etc

Been playing with printing TPU over the weekend. It is a real pain in the ***.

I have one roll of Creality TPU (CR-TPU black) that I bought some time ago. It has been dried and sitting in a sealed bag but it still needed drying.

Dried it and it printed better/ok-ish. Having constant issues with extrusion when trying to print straight from the dryer. I think there is too much drag on the filament when trying to feed it from the dryer and it causes under extrusion.

How are you guys printing TPU?

Is your feeder direct drive or bowden? Much better success with direct drive, especially the softer the TPU gets. I can print a 95A TPU on a bowden drive but anything softer I find it starts to struggle.

Drying.... I'm assuming you dried for at least 12hrs with heat+fan?

Its the A1 so direct drive.

I tried to run it in a PTFE tube from my Creality Space Pi dyer into an open slot on the filament hub. I could quuickly see that the first layer lacked filament (under extrusion).
I then tried without the PTFE tube (thought the PTFE may be causing added friction).
I then just took it out of the dryer and placed it on the top mount spool holder and it printed much better.
I later tried to re-print something while on the top spool and it had the same first layer problem as before.
I then put it back in the dryer and called it a day.

Yea dried it for a long ass time. :P Not sure of the time exactly because I had some power issues but it dried through the night and then some more the next morning. Will try again when I have some spare time. I don't really need something in TPU at the moment, just wanted to experiment...

It can be a real pain, only way print reliably is to dry it, print slow, and then have as little resistance as possible.
I've gone as far as hanging it above the printer and using as short a tube as possible to the print head and minimise movement pulling.

Probably a noob question but why even use a tube? Why not feed it directly to the head without the tube?

When the print head moves it will suddenly pull on the roll of filament when it gets to the farther ends. If you have the tube mounted to the print head and the filament mounting its a more even pull on the roll.

The sudden jerks with the stretchy filament seem to cause some problems.

If cheapskate a setup like that can still work

Running a setup like that
Got a hold of a few ribbon printers
Disasembled and just bought a hot end and the extruder gears plus arduino

chopped some wood blocks since i did not have someone to print the prusa parts for me

To coble a printer togeteher

My wife joked saying the only thing my printer prints is parts for itself

Has at least printed skmethjng other than parts for itself

The first real print
more tuning needed

I know that very well. Was fascinated by this magic thing and my first one was just a few planks screwed together and the bearings wire tied to the wood.
Was good enough to print the next one that printed the next one etc.
But these days you can get very decent printers for a few thousand and skip the fossils.

Since this is how my printer started
Parts for itself

Phase 2 standing on realky janky phase 1 just to be able to print parts for itself

Yea that is exactly how i did busy printing parts for itself again

So my wife will mock me again
