Now that my printer is nicely tuned (running on average 80mm/s) and has a proper full metal hot end (using a 0.6mm nozzle) I can finally get to playing with PETG like I wanted to. I opened a brand new eSun spool I received earlier this week, ran a benchy and was promptly rewarded with hissing and popping. WTF? Looking closer I could actually see the bubbles inside the filament (it's a transparent Orange). I plopped it into a dryer overnight and tried again this morning and wouldn't you know, printed perfectly. As a matter of interest I stopped printing test benchies and now print coasters - at least they're a lot more useful when done:

I was pretty surprised at how bad the brand new spool of filament was - the print was dull with a rough outer texture and stringing for days (I used a heat gun to clear the stringing on the benchy, it was pretty bad). Compare that to the shiny coaster with pretty much zero stringing. After the print this morning I put the spool into a cake tin with Silica balls - only to notice later that the balls have started turning pink so there's still some outgassing happening!

The balls in all the other cake tins are solid blue, only this spool is still outgassing. So, back into the dryer for another few hours.
Next up, I printed some SBS as I accidentally ordered one of these somehow. The initial attempt resulted in a clogged nozzle as I quickly realised how it turns into a pool noodle the moment it gets a hint of heat - even when FilX recommends using your PLA profile, so I dropped temps to around 200C. Second attempt resulted in some adhesion issues so I upped the bed to 60C and voila, perfect print. I usually have my bed at 50C for normal PLA as I've had some elephant foot in the past.

This was done with ZEN PLA Ultra Onyx black - one of new favourite filaments. Just a pity about the hex spool it comes on but I'm seriously thinking of using a router to round over the edges so it'll fit in my cake tins.
Almost perfect first layer:

And done:

Anyway, 3D printing noob here haha
