Hi

I am looking to buy a new TV but I am not sure if it is worth going for a 3D TV yet.

Do the people that actually have 3D tv's use it? Will it be viable to have 3D tv a year or 2 from now?

The people I personally know with 3D tv's have not watched more than 2 or 3 3D movies on their tv's.

If I go for 2D I can get a bigger TV in my budget range.

Any comments will be appreciated.

BTW, this is NOT a which TV is the best thread.

With the LG's the price is about the same so you might as well. I've only watched like 10 maybe more 3D movies on it. There's not alot of 3D blu rays around your shops but the interwebzz has and more is coming out.

Even if you dont use it for much YouTube has some 3D clips and you can play games in 3D using your PC or PS3

Not worth it for most, although it's a standard feature on most mid-high end TVs these days.

So what's your budget range?

Got me one of these, I was caught up in the hype but it was actually a good deal so I went for it.
I've watched one movie, played one PS3 game (the first Batman). Looking back, I'd rather have gone for a bigger size at the same price.
I don't know what the future holds, maybe it'll be big but I don't think so. So my advice would be to not look for one specifically.

The thing with 3D is that its different for everyone. One person finds it amazing loves the depth or pop out and suffers no eye strain. Another person hates it and then others can't see the 3D at all.(My sister in law sees no 3D when we watch, if I ask her if she can see the object coming out of the screen she just says NO it looks like before and it makes me dizzy. Maybe theres something wrong with her eyes or brain!)

I'm in the first group I have a 3D TV and nintendo 3DS I don't like playing games or watching movies in 2D anymore because to me its inferior. Only problem with the 3DS is you have to keep the bloody thing still because it has a sweetspot and who keeps their arms still while in the heat of a gun fight?

I don't have a 3dtv attached to my PC :p
I can stream youtoobs via the XBMC HTPC straight to the TV and it's awesome.
HDMI1.3 doesn't support full 3D properly, sadly. So I'm wondering if it will work... Not complicated, really ;)

Agreed. I'm also looking at replacing my aging LG and so far having watched a few movies at friends, I'm rather getting a big-a55 one than a 3D :)

I bought a LG 42 inch 3d and a samsung 3D blue ray.
Sure there isnt that much content available right now, but just about every new movie coming out is in 3D.
You can download SBS 3D content pretty easilly. and most video stores are now getting the 3D versions in.

SKY in the UK will start 3D broadcasts some time this year (maybee) so even more content.

The price difference isnt really that much.

The game changer though is the 2D to 3D converter the LG has.
I only watch Sport in 3D now, what a change it makes watching Rugby and cricket games in 3D.
was that penalty kick converted, well I can actually see it go through the poles rather than wait for the flag to go up.

Please try it out before hand though, some people cant see 3D or it makes them sick.

So yes it is a little early to go for 3D, but there defiantly is content available and the 2D to 3D conversion is great with HD content.

I think it is worth it. The passive version is FTW and will probably beat the active version of 3D purely on a practical ground.
