3dfx - A trip down memory lane

My first 3Dfx was a nasty 8mb PCI Canopus Pure 3D which died after a power spike. Soon after, I got a 16mb AGP Voodoo 3 2000, still have it stashed away somewhere.

lol, I see 3dfx.com forwards to geforce.com now.

I remember the apology letter they had on the site for many months after they were bought out by nvidia

The company I worked for in 1995-98 made a very brief foray into 3dfx (they did high end cad workstations among other things). We brought 3 VoodooRush cards into the country to see if they were worth bringing in bulk... One of which of course ended up in my home machine =)
And in fact, if you look at the wikipedia entry for voodoo rush, you will see that very card :)

I first saw a Voodoo card on a buddies PC back in 1997, it was a 4meg Voodoo Rush which was a bit of a limited Voodoo compared to the straight up normal Voodoo 1, then in 1998 or so another buddy got himself two Voodoo 2's and slied them it was a beast, my first Voodoo was in 1999 it was a Voodoo 3 3500 AGP 16mb version it made my old All in Wonder ATI Rage 3D pro look like a sickly grandmother in performance, after that I switched over to Geforce and now onto ATI.

We bought a PC that came with a Savage S3 32MB.

I was horrified when I came home one day and my brother/dad decided to change it to a Voodoo 3 16MB ... half the memory. I soon realized memory meant little, the the Voodoo far out performed the Savage with twice the memory.
