I was having a beer this afternoon and checking myBB on Tapatalk when suddenly avast's notifications went ballistic, normally what I see when I update apps. I went and checked and found google play services had updated itself, downloading almost 20MB. This pi$$ed me off as I use payg data on 3g.

Can anyone think of anything I can look at, as everything I can think of was switched off (including auto-updates which google often ignores for its own apps)?

Play services is a core core app, it always has and likely always will ignore auto update settings. This is because it's required for interaction with Google services. Depending on what's changed, not updating could render certain Google apps on your device useless or limit functionality.

As far as I know there is no way to block it as it's updates are not even actually done via the at store itself, so a firewall would be I effective, play services updates play services and blocking that turns ur smart phone Into a dumb phone.

Thanks for responding, not what I was wanting to hear, but what I was expecting. I would have hoped that they did large updates like that over wifi.

Remember, Goolge is in America, and while yes sucky countries like ours do exist (data price wise) many other countries have either lower data rates or wifi hot spots on their wifi hot spots, so data is really a non-issue.
