Have a vodacom mymeg 500 contract which costs me R249pm.
The contract includes a modem and lasted 24months (interestingly the modem warrenty also lasts exactly 24months).

Prepaid mymeg 500 costs R189.

However, if you as a contract customer allow your contract to simply roll on beyond the 24month period you still pay R249.

Why?:confused:

The 'free' modem you recieved at the beginning of the contract is paid off after 24months. The modem warrenty is no longer valid and so if anything goes wrong with the modem you must either buy a new one or sign-up for another compulsory 24months.

The same discrepancy applies to all mymeg contract vs mymeg prepaid.

Voadcom simply say the terms and conditions of the contract or 'written in stone' so to speak.

:confused::wtf:

Why the coment regarding the warranty? This is a good thing is it not? It woould be a issue if the warranty was only for a year, but the contract was two years. All Vodacom supplied equipment (except for laptops and accesories which is serviced by the manufacturers themselves) carries a two year warranty as standard.

The issue of the subscription has been raised before I think on this forum. Should you not be happy with this charge and your modem is still in good condition, then I suggest you cancell that contract and then go prepaid as this will give you the lower pricing. What you can also do is once the 3G line is deleted, you then do a add on bundle onto a your existing cell number that you use in your phone for example, then you ask the Vodashop to supply you with a data sim. This then goes into your modem and will feed of the data bundle that is active on your line. Please note though that the data sim product carries a R9.10 monthly charge. There will also be a once off charge to connect the new sim of R97.00 and also you will need to purchase the second sim card from the Vodashop. I am not sure what the purchase price is as I dont work in a actual retail shop. Please enquire in store.

Should something happen to your modem, then you can either buy a new one as a cash purchase and continue with the data sim as set up above, or you can take out a new 3G line again to be supplied with a new modem on the contract for 24 months.

Prepaid monthly charge = R0.00!

Amazingly it costs exactly R0.00 to connect a new pre-paid sim!

... you will need to purchase the second sim card from the Vodashop.
R10 from Vodashop, R0.99 from Game around the corner!

Yes, but AMAZINGLY you do get people out there that either do not know how to use internet banking....and you also get people that do not want the hassle of charging with airtime, and then having to convert it to a bundle etc. Also, if you read my post again....I did mention the prepaid option...but for the sake of being thorough, I also gave the Data Sim option. It is up to the client to decide what is more convenient for him.

I recently reached the end of a 24 month MyGig 1 contract. I felt I didn't need a new modem at that time so I had the option of changing to prepaid or renewing the contract without a new modem. I chose the latter and my account now reflects an "Airtime subscription discount" of R65.99 per month. That represents a saving of R1583 over the coming 24 months which must be close to what a modem would cost.
