I wasn't too sure what to choose as a heading so apologies, but let me explain my current "situation".

I currently have a VC Topup 315 contract which expires in January im told. Each month I get my R 315.00 airtime and add up another R 100.00 to purchase a 2gb databundle. So this ends up as R 389 per month for a mere 2gb.

Now, my question is, does vodacom provide Data only contracts that gives more data, at a good price? And not those kind that bundles the external modems or laptops seeing i already have my own. Or should I keep going at this until my contract expiress, switch back to a smaller contract and look elsewhere?

Top-up gives you the best control over your spending, plus the convenience of debit order. If 2GB is too much for you in a month then scale down your contract, but for the 2GB really is about the best bang for buck on the Vodacom Data bundle range.

Your other option if your data needs is irregular is pre-paid. You buy airtime and convert it to bundles in much the same way as you do now, but if one month you find you don't need a bundle you just don't buy one or get a smaller one.

top ups are the best since with contract you have a 60 day roller over so at least with the prepaid you dont waste any cap. And i think that on the contract they charge you if go over your cap it doesn't cut you off.

hmmmm, thats true about the contract....I was hoping there's a cheaper option to get my 2gb a month. Sometimes thats not enough. :p harhar

Think VodacomData will give me some free data each month if I hassle him enough? :D

I'd dump the contract and go pre-paid - that way if something better does come along you're free to go for it. You've obviously got the modem already and the only benefit to getting a contract is that you get a modem at a slightly better price than you'd get it buying cash. The data costs the same, whether it's on contract or pre-paid.

Another advantage of pre-paid is that the roll over is easier to control - on a contract it'll use your new month's allocation before your rolled over data, whereas on prepaid, you can use the old bundle till it's done before buying a new one. You just don't want to buy a new pre paid bundle near the end of the month as it lasts till the end of the following month so you get less time on your rollover, but if you're using a lot of data, rollovers aren't the biggest thing on your mind :-)
