What is the best way if you want 3G for your desktop. A friend cannot get DSL in his area, and no other provider covers him besides Vodacom. Now for him and another people like him, what can you get if you want a 3G connection on your home computer.

He simply wants to do light browsing/email and MSN

Step one: make sure there is 3G coverage!!!!!!!!
Step two: if there isnt then throw your toys out the cot
Step three: wait

There IS 3G coverage, but nothing else... so what happens if tehre is no ADSL "coverage"

3g phone will do with an USB connection!! Saves money by not buying the PCI > PCMCIA adapter.

The 6680 is a brilliant 3G modem and u can get it free on weekender bolt on a small data bundle and ur browsing for +- R200 a month or go for a 3G500 and see if u can swop the data card for a 6680 that will cost u R350 a month but u have 500MB. I'm not sure if the new 3G/HSDPA cards work in the pcmcia adaptor... V3G could tell us...?

Yes it does. I've got an adapter for my Iburst and 3G card and it works well
