3G down in Newlands,Bergbron area for 10 days now???

I'm disappointed in the lack of response from MTN as I have complained on a few occasions these past few days as 3G is no longer working in these areas in Jo'burg. I understand that the base station is located at Reenboogland Primary School. No-one seems to respond. I've even left my number for a techy to get hold of me.

Please assist me MTN, as I use 3G quite extensively and I'd like this service to be restored to this base station a.s.a.p.

Hey, I live in Durbanville (sonstraal heights), and have a Vodacom contract, and am looking into MTN Broadband, however I had to first dial *123# to get it working, then it sticks to GPRS or EDGE I cant notice which it is on =/ , cant find my Nokia 6680 manual lol, but anyways is there something I need to activate to get 3G or EDGE?

Does my area even have EDGE or 3G

If there's 3G, your phone should go to 3G and say "3G" in the top left. Otherwise, the signal is either too weak, or there's no 3G.

For EDGE,
Download the netmonitor menu sis file from www.symbian-freak.com and lock your phone to the EDGE tower using menu 1-12 of netmonitor. To know which tower is EDGE, see menu 6-12 in netmonitor. There's a field called, EGPRS support. If it's 1, it means you are currently on an EDGE tower. Go through all the channels you can pick up that you see on menu 1-3 thru to 1-5, anyone better than about -95 dBm. Lock/Unlock to each one seperately and check the EGPRS value until you get a value of 1. Then keep using that tower

To lock to the tower, goto menu 1-12 and enter the hex value of the channel number found on anyone of menu 1-3 thru to 1-5. Get the hex value on Windows calculator in scientific mode. To unlock the phone, enter 3333 as the channel number and reboot the phone.

Its happening again-3G signal from Reenboogland Primary has dropped down to very low and unuseable. Phoned MTN helpdesk and again not very helpful. Please MTN sort out your helpdesk and this seemingly problematic base-station.
