Hi,

As discussed elsewhere, I'm a newbie here, so please accept my apologises if I am asking something stupid or out of line. I raised this topic on the Vodacom forum and no one has bitten yet, so I am trying here in the hope that it might elicit some response from someone clever.

I am doing a little research into 3G in SA and wondered if anyone knows:

1. What are the actual frequencies assigned to Vodacom and MTN? Eg. 2x10MHz paired + 1x5MHz unpaired 1920-1930, 2110-2120 / 1915-1920. As I understood it, both have only been issued temporary licences: I wondered what frequencies they were using.

2. Has Cell C been awarded a temporary licence?

3. What are the real/actual downlink and upload speeds they are achieving on tests?

Thanks in advance. Nice site by the way - very knowledgeable crowd around here.

Yours

Jo.

I might be wrong but the answer to question 2 is that CellC seem to "rent" Vodacom's 3G network. So they are just reselling Vodacom. I don't know if there are any CellC 3G enabled towers.

Thank you for helping out and for taking the time to reply Crash.

I did not think that Cell C might be going down that route. The only thing I've read is this article:

http://cooltech.iafrica.com/technews/397519.htm

This seems to steer it more towards Cell C looking to go it alone, but of course it might well be that they seem themselves more as a virtual player in 3G.

Thanks

As I say, any help on the other questions or clarification of this point would be very welcome.
