Hi,

Im using a Nokia 6680, with a Vodacom pre-paid simcard. When Im using GPRS/3G, my connection gets dropped if its idle for more than 15-20 seconds. As long as its downloading data, its fine. I purchased the phone on an MTN contract, and when I use my MTN card, I have no connectivity problems at all. Please can someone help me resolve this issue, or at least help me get informed on what the problem is.

Thanks in advance...

Check what number you are using to dial with your MTN si, if it is *99***1# then change the number to *99***2# for your vodacom sim..

But Im not using my PC. Im using the GPRS/3G on my phone. And there is no "Dial Up connection" anywhere in my phones settings.

Ok, my apologies, then on the phone, go into your network settings and see if you can change the band on the phone to 3G only or UMTS...

connection problem

i suspect you are having the same problem as me have you tested your connection in a different area?, vodacom seems to be wierd in some of the areas

Under Network -> Network mode, I have a choice between "Dual Mode"(current), and "GSM". No sign of 3G only or UMTS.

Its not an area/tower problem. Both my brothers live with me, use Vodacom as well, and have absolutely no problems.

If thats the case its probably your access point or browser settings try sending the internet.GPRS settings to your phone again.

@Gunny: Doesnt help. Tried it a few times. No change. Even a full phone reset & re-download of settings resulted in the same problem. Could it perhaps be a phone hardware problem? Could that result in such a subtle problem?

Well, guys, I think I have resolved the issue.

I suspect it was problem because I use both MTN & Vodacom GPRS on the same phone(by swapping sims). Under Packet Data, somehow the Access Point value was blank. I set it to the Access Point value in Internet.GPRS, and my connection seems to be staying solid. I just got to remember to change it to the MTN equivalent when I change cards(Almost never).

Thanks for all your help:) I really appreciate it.
